We had a very nice experience looking at all the books that were on display. At the end, the museum's guide
presented us different types of spinning tops and how to spin them, which was really fun. We also learned about the formation of Meteora and about the monks's net/elevator from Meteora.

If you are in Kalambaka you should definitely pay a visit to this little museum. Take a free guided tour in English or Greek with a friendly and knowledgeable staff to get a better context and ask a lot of questions!
We even learned how to write our names in the Greek alphabet. I can imagine that this museum is also a lot of fun for children, as well as for grownups. Highly recommended!

An extensive collection of Greek school texts and school-related artefacts including a little classroom and slate boards that reminded me of my first years in school. Also, some books dated after the Fall of Constantinople, showing how Greek literature began to spread in Europe, and a display case and little room devoted to Aesop's Fables. Some writing implements and a moveable-type printing press complete the private collection that has kindly been opened to the public. Must-see for teachers and anyone interested in education and books. Our guide Katerina had excellent English and was not only knowledgeable but also enthusiastic, with a touch of humour. Added bonus, a video showing how the Meteora rocks were formed, and a 1922 film showing a monk being hoisted up to a monastery in a net. Fortunately for us tourists the monasteries now have steps. (A lot of steps!)

I really enjoyed this museum. It had lots of artefacts and as a teacher I found the them very interesting. There were lots of objects relating to school down through the ages. The tour guide was super and her English was excellent.

The Museum of Hellenic Culture in Kalambaka showcases artifacts relating to Greek education from the Modern Greek state (1830) to the present. It displays school uniforms, books, desks, and toys used by pupils during their education.
Many rare books are also on display by Ancient Greek writers such as Homer and Aesop. The collection of Aesop’s Fables includes various editions from countries other than Greece - some of these with colour illustrations.
Aesop plays an important part in this museum, in that a space has been set aside to highlight his Fables. This space utilizes an innovative approach by including a “tree” – see attached picture. It also contains low benches which makes it suitable for small children.
One room entitled Meteora Hall, is devoted to the rocks of Meteora - and is also interesting.
Nearly all information panels are in English and Greek. On our visit, we were fortunate enough to have had a guided tour by one of the helpful and friendly museum staff members. This was extremely informative.
The collection is vast and unique and would interest both educators and lay people from all around the world.

I loved this museum! It is small but packs in so much. The guide was excellent and paced her tour on my interests. There is a short movie of the geology of the area, a clip of a monk being raised in the net, in the Meteora room. There also were pictures and articles. There is an interesting room of Aesop and his stories and then a larger room with many antique books that the owner has collected. The school room was also interesting, particularly with the depiction of the hidden room where children were schooled during the occupation. I was so impressed that this owner has acquired such a magnificent collection. Highly recommend.

I visited this museum with my Greek partner (I am British and speak/read little Greek). We had an enjoyable visit. In particular I really enjoyed the hands on, interactive exhibits (like the class room) and the meteora exhibit that included some interesting videos and images.
Despite the best efforts of the very helpful museum assistant some of the exhibits would have been inaccessible to me due to the language barrier (obviously). Thankfully my Greek partner did his best to help and managed to translate much of the artifacts etc.
A more cohesive explanation of why education differed throughout time might have been beneficial and the class room did not show one particular time period, but was still interesting.
This small museum is well worth a visit to find out more about meteora alone though especially the videos and at only 5 euros each, it's good value for money. It will take up to two hours to look at absolutely everything.
The Museum assistant was extremely helpful and despite not speaking much English used an iPad and the videos to engage with me.
Overall we spent a nice and interesting couple of hours.

If you want to step away from the crowds at the Meteora for an hour, step into this small but interesting museum! We got a very enthusiastic tour, explaining about the local school system and providing some insights on daily life in the local area. The visit took around one hour, time we'll spent!
