This is the most powerful waterfall in Europe, and my, is it powerful. You can get here by taking two roads, so you can get to both sides of the fall. I recommend wearing rain clothes when you visit the fall, if the wind is...More

I had read to view the falls from the east side that is the road we took. I had no idea it would take about 1 1/2 hours to get there once you turn off the ring road, traveling on a dirt/gravel road. The road...More

There is parking on both sides of this waterfall and it is a must see on the way to Myvatn. Just be prepared to walk a little bit. Enjoy!

In a country with hundreds of waterfalls this is the grandaddy of them all. It is a spectacular sight and can be seen from different viewing points. I cannot imagine the volume of water per second that goes over this waterfall.

We decided to go to see Dettifoss from the east side using route 864 so that we would be able to hike to Selfoss and view Hafragilfoss. Be aware that 864 is a very rough gravel road. Also, there are restroom facilities at the Dettifoss...More

This waterfall is really impressive. The view and the sound of it is unforgettable. On top of that, this place is really easy to access. I'll recommend to see it from the east side of the river (you'll need to take a little bumpy road...More

We found the 28 kilometre road to Dettifoss a bit rough and bumpy but certainly passable with care. You don't need a 4x4 to get there. We wanted to see Dettifoss after seeing the falls in the movie Prometheus. It's a beautiful and powerful natural...More

It's a long gravel road but it's worth it to see the most powerful waterfall in Europe. The trail to see is mostly rock and there are rock steps to go down. Nice trails to see different views.well worth the drive!

This is not the prettiest waterfall in Iceland, but it is a powerful reminder of the intensity of the forces of nature. You really feel tiny and powerless standing next to it. Unmissable.

We chose the western access route as it provides a paved access road to the site. There is an extensive free car park and toilet facilities. The track to the falls is about one kilometre in length and is easy walking but I would doubt...More

It was a bit slippery last month but nothing to really stop anyone from taking a short hike that took us around 20 minutes at an easy pace. There is also a path that cuts off to the right that takes you towards Selfoss (the... More

While I was there I did not encounter any bugs or insects. Iceland was actually pretty bug free when I was there in August, but that might be different when you go. With the amount of mist in the air I doubt you will run... More

Which ever is on the east side will give you a beautiful view of dettifoss, but please also plan on hiking the 1 Km up river to Selfoss which is a beautiful falls and only properly viewed from the east side. If your on the... More
