The sight of a falcon diving down towards earth at over 100mph is one of life’s truly exhilarating experiences.  Having a hawk stand on your fist, happily tearing at its food, is a rare privilege. But to actually fly a bird of prey encompasses both of these and so much more. One of Britain’s few private falconry centres, Dartmoor Hawking sits at the heart of Dartmoor National Park.  internationally recognized as having some of the most dramatic and stunning scenery in the country. With 35 acres of its own land, the school has plenty of space to allow clients to really see these magnificent birds flying at their best. But the wings of a raptor have few limitations and we also have access to about 15,000 acres of hunting/flying ground away from the site.Dartmoor Hawking is not open to the general public which means that we can devote all our time to our clients. In turn, that means that each individual has one of the most interactive and personal experiences with birds of prey available in the country. As a privately-run centre, we ensure that your time with us is as enjoyable and exciting as possible. Our hands-on approach is inherent in all that we offer. On our introduction and experience days, the emphasis is very much on clients handling and flying birds. For those wishing to experience real falconry, our hunting days provide a fantastic opportunity to work with birds in the field and see what the hawks can really do!Our aim is to share the wonders of birds of prey and falconry with all our clients. At Dartmoor Hawking School of Falconry, we know that your time spent with our hawks, falcons and owls will be a truly unforgettable experience. Please note: We have full Public Liability Insurance for all our events and all our staff CRB checked

My husband and I did the 4 1/2 hour falconry experience and LOVED it. We kind of wondered how that much time could be filled flying birds but it can...and you'll want it to last longer. Martin is very funny and a great guide teaching you how to handle these beautiful birds. The stars of the show for us was... More

I bought a £120 voucher as a gift for a friend and this company was very happy to take my money but seemed much less happy to fulfil their side of the transaction. To begin with, it was very difficult to get in touch with the man to book the session; he seemed unable or unwilling to respond to phonecalls,... More

We had a superb afternoon at Dartmoor Hawking with Martin the falconer, teaching my 18 year old daughter who wanted to fly a Golden Eagle from horseback. We started off with some smaller falcons/ hawks on foot, a Gyr-Peregrine cross, a Ferugian falcon and a Harris Hawk. We had a small diversion to help Martin's latest addition, a fledgling kestrel... Watched the show at the fun in park in Tavistock. Great seeing the birds and everyone learnt something new. Great show with the gulls overhead hope you have found your falcon.

I have been out with Martin and his crew twice now. I have thoroughly enjoyed both days - the fist was a Christmas present from my wife and the second was a Christmas present for my daughters partners. Martin puts on a very good show and nothing is too much trouble, if you are a game shooter then if you... More

We visited with a group aged 4 to 71 and loved our time with Martin, the birds and dogs. Beautiful setting and Martin was so generous with his time and expertise. The whole group was engaged the whole time. We loved the birds and were really amazed how hands on it all was, despite none of us having any idea... More

16 of us went, each got a go to handle the birds, and some to fly them. Children loved it, Martin told us lots, with his great sense of humour, and answered all the childrens' questions, encouraging even the most timid of them to have a go. Fascinating information about the birds, and watching them fly, chased by Monty the... More
