This yet another amazing beach on the west coast of Harris with lovely white sand and fantastic views in all directions.

The walk is worth it to have the beach to yourself

This beach was the most beautiful we have visited on Lewis and Harris so far. The lack of people on the beach meant there was unspoilt sand, gorgeous views and great photographic opportunities.
We parked at the edge of the A859 road beside a sign for the beach and next to a field with an old bus in it. Go through the gate and follow the path through the field to the gate on the other side. This leads along a path to the sand dunes through which you reach the beach. The sign says 1.7km walk to the beach, but I think it was only 1km. Once we reached the beach there were only two other groups on the whole beach - one group were learning to surf. I loved the peacefulness of the beach. We walked for about 1km towards the left end of the beach but could easily have walked the same distance to the other end of the beach.

Amazing

This was such an amazing beach, stunning views all around, soft white sands, and hardly anybody around. We had earlier visited Luskentyre beach, and found that to be far too busy and an unpleasant experience due to the hoards of people and human excrement everywhere.

You can park just on the road side here, just before you get to Northton, and walk through the field, and into the dunes where the wonders of this beach then reveal themselves. We spent a magical and solitary couple of hours here, just marvelling at the views and solitude.

We will be back

An equal to Luskentyre but quieter
Jul 2020
The first view of the beach once though the dunes ,always takes my breath away.Even in peak season, we are often the only people here. The surf rushes in even on the calmest of days and the light playing over the North Harris hills in the far distance is gorgeous.it is a very pristine beach , with rarely much seaweed.
Ceapabhal, the hill at the end of the beach, looks almost unreal. It's well worth the hour or so's steep slog to climb it for amazing views over Harris and the other islands, all ringed by white sands.
We usually access the beach at the end of the houses (heading for Leverburgh) where there is some rough parking next to a farm gate.An old decrepit bus sits in a nearby field. Then an easy few minutes walk through an almost desert-like landscape, to the main beach.
Life affirming and great to just sit with a picnic, taking it all in.

Best beach in all of the world!

A little tricky to find the way down to this beach, but oh, so worth the effort. The waves are incredible and the sunsets sublime. The unexpected sighting of 2 porpoises playing in the waves was the icing on the cake.

Beautiful open beach with white sand stretching for miles. The kids ran wild and loved collecting shells and even paddling in the sea!

Looks good in all weathers

A great beach to really get away from the crowds. Lovely white sand that looks decidedly tropical when the sun is out and then, within 10 minutes when it starts to rain, looks desolate and dramatic. A good place for a walk to make you feel alive! You get a sense of the size of this beach as you’re heading south on the main road where, by the golf course, you can see it ahead of you with its lovely yellow sand spreading towards Northton.

There’s no facilities here, which is great as it reduces visitor numbers and the innumerable touring vans you bump into on Harris. Best access for us was at the south end just before you hit the saltmarsh adjacent to the road. There’s an obvious pull in by a couple of Hebridean Way signs, one pointing to the beach that says Scarista 1 mile; it’s not a mile to the beach and it’s only a 5 minute walk through a couple of gates to the dunes. You know you’re in the right place as there’s an abandoned Maclennan’s bus in the dunes. Enjoy as much as we did!
