This is the rim of a volcano caldera and also the quarry where the islanders carved the Moai. There are hundreds here in various stages, some partially buried and some partially sculpted. Make sure you see the largest Moai ever, still attached to the caldera but the front is sculpted. Also be sure to make the short hike into the... More

Rano Raraku site on Easter Island Chile is a place where you can admire these larger than life statues in the open area and not in a museum. There are a number of them scattered on the site to wander and see some fallen, some still erect or buried in the grass. Not as impressive as those found at the... More

This the quarry where they carved the moai on the outside crater wall of the volcano (Some of which are still half carved in the wall). Most of the moai here are incomplete the largest being 21.6 meters. You will take the best pictures here because the moai are jostled upright together like a leafless forest. Although I couldn't find... More

You cannot make the long trip to the Island and not come here. This is the place where the statues were carved and you can see lots of them in various states of completion, abandoned during the carving or while being transported to their destination. Here is where you will take the pictures to bore the folks back home or... More

This place has got to be the highlight of any trip to Easter Island. This is the quarry where the iconic Moai statues were carved. It is an absolutely amazing place, one side of a volcano, the quarry goes all the way to the top and (although we were not able to see it) apparently over the edge into the... More

It is both sad and amazing to walk through this landscape of fallen and standing Moais they are beautiful and mystical at once. The statues were made on one side of the island and the red "top knots", representing hair, on the other side then they were transported to where they stood, a feat ! Allow plenty of time!

This is a super place to walk around and look at where they made the Moai statues all those years ago. There are many unfinished statues. The nature there is fantastic.

Rano Raraku is one of those places that aren’t easy to describe, somehow it’s too much and words are not enough. For a long time it was a dream for me, the place I wanted to visit the most in the world and being there was incredible, I almost couldn’t believe my dream came true! It’s an incredible site, all... We visited Easter Island on a Pacific cruise and were very lucky to be able to get ashore. This is one of the world's most iconic travel locations - set in the most remote island on the planet. The statues (moai) are dotted around the island, with many unfinished ones in the main quarry. Amazing statues and interesting how they... More

What a great place to visit. This Easter Island Head did not ask me for any gum. Even though I brought some just in case. Well worth making the 6 hour trip by plane to get to Easter Island - Its a must see on any bucket list.
