If you're visiting Rapa Nui, don't miss this site. It's the second best site to visit on the island after the quarry Ranu Rakku. You are only allowed one visit here with the national park ticket you buy on arrival, so plan your visit so...More

Whilst not much to look at, it is the relevance of this place to the Islands history that matters and a guide is essential to explain this.

We finished the crater trek and then went to Orongo to see what remains of the village. Really interesting - learned about the bird-man competition, cooking, housing, all with amazing views. Tons to learn.

up on the crater, Orongo explains to you the origin and procedures of the birdman cult. Interesting. See the distance the competitors needed to swim, to climb, to get the first egg back to the island. Include Orongo into a guided tour climbing up the...More

We walked here from Hanga Roa along a well laid out path - a fairly steep climb in places but doable if you are used to hiking. Loved the views from the crater.

The crater of the extinct volcano is now partially overgrown and has become a wetland habitat. Wonderful walks around the crater rim.
