The Jiaxiu Pavilion and Cuiwei Garden from the Ming Dynasty are a lovely place to spend some time while in Guiyang. The Pavilion imposingly looms next to the river bank, yet the entire complex of buildings invites exploration. Since it is the dominant ancient architectural feature in the city, it is worth a visit.

Lovely little gardens in the shadow of a muncipal school. Beautiful cherry blossom trees and an interesting collection of wood carvings. An elderly Chinese man has an artist's studio at the rear of the Pavilion. Combine with Jiaxiu Tower as a good way of spending an hour in the heart of Guiyang.

The Cuiwei Garden which houses a or more (I am not sure if they belong together) tea houses is located right next to Jiaxiu Tower. It consist of "old" structures and lots of areas where they serve tea. You can also see calligraphy artist at work and of course purchase them among some other trinkets.
