Excellent instruction
Jul 2019 • Couples
After several stays at club med we decided to try this place. Besides CM we have also done trapeze at a few other places. Colby is the best instructor we've had. We fixed a lot of bad habits that were keeping us from improving our swing, and we were flying out of lines for the first time which was awesome. Not only is Colby a great instructor but he is fun to be around. There were flyers of many levels there, including first time flyers. We also did a little bit of silks and lyra (hoop). Bring your own grips. We flew every day at 5pm for anywhere between 1 and 1.5 hours depending on how many people were there and when people felt done. A couple of times we also flew at 9am. Sometimes we catch sometimes we don't. The sessions are flexible according to what people want to work on. Colby and Christina are the new owners of Extreme Circus, a separate entity from the hotel Extreme Hotel but on the same property. This is a great place for people that just got the bug to get excellent instruction and not form bad habits. This is also a great place for advanced flyers to go work while also enjoying beautiful Cabarete.

Great coaching for all levels of participants

I've been introduced to circus arts recently by my girlfriend and she's the one who brought me to Extreme Circus Cabarete. After spending a week with Greg and his team, I'm the one who now longs to go back as soon as possible. I had one previous experience at Club Med where I had a very good time on the flying trapeze, but Extreme Circus is something else, in a league of its own where you have the perfect set-up for learning well and fast. Small classes, great instruction, and attention to details are amongst their forces. Whether you're an expert flyer or a beginner, you'll find them super skilled and you will learn. My girlfriend who's a very experienced flyer received very valuable instruction and on my end, as a beginner, I didn't expect to be able to learn the swing and catch a back-end planche within only 2 sessions. This shows how efficient and skilled Greg and his team are. Talking about Greg, the chief of circus: he's very skilled and technical. He sees everything and focuses on the right technique right from the onset, which is great. You can ask him almost anything about circus, and not only about flying trapeze. We asked him to show us duo trapeze and he walked us through it. I asked him to show me to hand stand and walk on my hands; no problem, he showed me, once again with technique and know-how. This guy is an amazing teacher, and he shows you the right way. Now, his flying trapeze accomplice Mauro: a real Brazilian. Charming, welcoming, super nice and warm. A real gentleman. Super skilled as well, he makes sure that you understand what's required to succeed and he's super good at explaining in a way that you'll understand even though you're not an advanced flyer. He uses external cues, clear and understandable explanations and it works. His cues are on point and they are worth a million words. Greg and Mauro have different teaching methods and this is great because they compliment each other so well. I long to see them again soon to perfect those skills they taught me. Now, last but not least, the amicable and amazingly smiling Kelsey. Also obviously on the trapeze team, she not only makes your trapeze sessions so enjoyable, but she also shines when she teaches you other circus arts like silk and rope (corde lisse). Students or all level and all ages adore her for a reason. She's nice, thoughtful, skillful (and super strong) and passionate. A real gem. All this to say, if you like circus arts and enjoy smaller groups where you can have one-on-one worthwhile teaching, look no more and just get there! Don't forget to also book HIIT sessions with Jeremy at Extreme Fitness Cabarete to get in shape. He too, is an amazing trainer who focuses about good form, not just reps!

Circus camp in Cabarete!
Mar 2019 • Couples
Just back from an awesome Circus vacation in Cabarete! Thank you Greg, Kelsey and Mauro for all your great coaching! You guys are the best! It was really fun to be able to train not only flying trapeze but also to do other aerials like silks and duo trapeze! Coming back from an injury it was great to have a good team to support me and adapt to my abilities! You were so flexible and focused on making sure I had a great week of Circus! This team is really dedicated to every person that comes to their classes no matter what their level and physical condition is. What an amazing week! Thanks again and can’t wait to fly with you again!!!

Circus training
Feb 2019 • Couples
Spent the week working on flying trapeze with Gregory and the whole team. Had a blast and worked on basics as well as new tricks and improving old ones. Also got in on some juggling, and aerials. Fantastic folks and great training for new flyers or experienced flyers in paradise. And just steps from a delicious Mojito afterwards.

Run Away and Join the Circus!
Jan 2019 • Solo
Yes you can! I spent 5 days at the Extreme Hotel and participated in both flying trapeze and silks taught by Extreme Circus. Whether you are taking classes for the first time or have some background, the instructors take the time to share the importance of safety and go above and beyond in their instruction of all students. It truly was an amazing and inspiring experience. My limits were challenged by Gregory, Rex, Mauro and Kelsey. Planning my next trip now!

Great rig for both experienced flyers and those new to circus!
Jan 2019 • Solo
When I woke up this morning back home, I was extremely sad to realize that I a) was no longer within walking distance of a beach, b) no longer in 80 degree weather, and c) am not flying today (or tomorrow, or the next day) with the great staff at Extreme Circus. I have been participating in circus for almost 4 years now, with my primary apparatus as the flying trapeze (dabbling in trampoline, silks, and static trapeze as well), and have had the opportunity to fly at a number of rigs in the U.S. and abroad. I came down to the DR to fly with some folks I knew from TSNY DC and celebrate NYE in paradise. The entire experience completely exceeded my expectations. I got great feedback on everything I was working on (wanted to try some new tricks and finesse some old tricks) and always felt supported, and was encouraged (strongly) to try new things that I hadn't thought of previously. The rig was the perfect size- I didn't have to adjust my takeoff stance in an uncomfortable way like I've had to at other rigs. Some specific call outs to the staff while I was there: -I've known Rex since the start of my flying trapeze obsession, and I still carry her guidance on some of my tricks to this day. She understands that flying can be frustrating, and works with you to find solutions. I also got to catch with her for the first time, which was fantastic! -I loved getting to know Kelsey and wish I had the opportunity to take other classes (like fabric and lyra) with her. She has such positive energy on the board and on lines, and her warm ups were always fun. -In addition to being a beautiful flyer, Mauro gave some really good suggestions for my warm up swing to open up my shoulders. He also makes a fantastic Batman. -There are no words to describe how much fun you'll have with Gregory- as a lines puller, as a catcher, as a coach, and over the two for one mojitos (for those of us who can). He's positive, provides useable feedback, and made each class so fantastic that I am already looking into how I can get back to continue working on some tricks that I didn't manage to do (not because of them, but because my hands got a little massacred from flying every day). Finding superb flying trapeze coaching for both children and adults is something that can be rare, but once you find it, you'll be hooked on it. One note for folks like me with the sensitive hands (we can't all have the protective trapeze calluses)- I did have trouble with my grips slipping initially and had a few hand rips because I elected to go without the grips, but because I was having such an awesome time, I pushed through. Suffice it to say that can consider myself an Extreme Circus Cabarete devotee, and started planning when I can return next.

Amazing Circus Experience
Dec 2018 • Friends
The main draw to this place is by far the flying trapeze class that happens twice a day. In addition, there's a rotation of silks, lyra, acro, stretching, handstands, and juggling classes throughout the day. In all these classes, the instructors are visibly experienced with teaching and actually performing. You can tell they are genuinely enjoying what they do, and they'll let you progress as slow as you'd like, or help you push yourself as hard as you can (while staying within reasonable limits). Once classes are over they'll be happy to show you around town. Also I did not expect the included farm tour to be interesting (especially when the rest of my week was spent on flying trapeze and etc.), but I was blown away by the entire self-sustainability system in place at the farm. The menu options for the included breakfast and dinner are somewhat limited (7 choices for breakfast, about ~20 for dinner), but honestly that hardly matters because even if you eat the same thing multiple times, the food is so good and fresh you won't get tired of it. Overall, the group I went with ranged from complete beginner to intermediate level in circus, and we all loved our experience, from check-in to check-out.

Adventure of a Lifetime!
Nov 2018 • Friends
I cannot say enough positive things about the Extreme Circus in Cabarete!! I took a trapeze class the day after I arrived and I was immediately hooked. I ended up taking 6 classes in a 7 day timeframe and cannot WAIT to come back to take more! The instructors (Greg - the owner, Mauro, Rex, and Kelsey), were extraordinarily encouraging, positive, and fun (and so talented!!). They celebrated our successes and made us feel like superstars, no matter our level. They gave clear instructions, were attentive on the rig, and made me feel safe at all times. Despite being a total novice, I was able to progress quickly thanks to their fantastic teaching skills and encouragement when I was intimidated! In addition to the trapeze rig, there is a beautiful outdoor covered circus training space featuring silks, hammocks, lyra, and pole. It was truly a dream to fly on their gorgeous outdoor trapeze rig overlooking the pool/beach, and train in the outdoor circus area. This is a MUST, no matter your level! Truly a dream come true.

Circus Vacation Dream Come True!
Nov 2018 • Friends
I came to Extreme Circus Cabarete for an aerial and pole fitness retreat, organized by High Flying Retreats. We stayed at EXtreme Circus Hotel for one week, I wish I could stay longer! The hotel is a circus arts dream come true! There's a flying trapeze rig, an outdoor covered area to practice aerial hoop, silks, hammock, and pole, a yoga loft, and it's right on the beach! I tried flying trapeze for the first time, and I was hooked! The following day I ended up taking 2 more classes, and I learned so many tricks and technique. The circus crew, Greg, Rex, Kelsey, and Mauro, were sooo good explaining each move, calming down any possible nerves (it can be scary standing on that platform so far from the ground!), and they were all so supportive, celebrating every little milestone with us flyers. Now I want to take flying trapeze back home but I know it wouldn't be anywhere is awesome as Extreme Circus Hotel! I'll just have to come back here again for another vacation :)

If You've Ever Wanted to Try........
Jul 2018 • Couples
If you've ever wanted to try trapeze, or any of the things offered, I would highly recommend Extreme Circus as the place to do it. I have always wanted to try trapeze. As my wife and I were looking for things to do on our trip to DR, we happened upon this opportunity. Having done gymnastics and diving in my (much) younger days, I'm pretty comfortable in the air, and was excited to try this despite being 56 years old. My wife, not having the same background was a bit less excited, but willing to give it a try. By the end of a two hour lesson we were each swinging off the platform, hiking our legs up to put tuck the bar at our knees, letting go with our hands to swing upside down, re-grasping the bar and lowering our legs to swing into a back-flip dismount landing in the net. That was more than I expected, and more than my wife would've believed (or gotten herself into if she'd known). It was an absolute blast! Gregory, the owner/instructor, made this feat easy by breaking everything down into steps which we first practiced on the ground. He gave us confidence that we could do it, which is the best praise I could give to an instructor. He coached us through it in the air, and was a master on the safety lines. Not once did I feel less than confident or less than safe; my wife would say the same. There were two other instructors on the platform who were excellent as well. So if you have any doubts, I hope I've helped assuage them by letting you know that a couple of fifty year olds, did this with some competence and had a once in a lifetime experience (actually I hope to try it again). Kudos to Gregory and his team for making it both possible and fun. If you're tempted, you won't regret it, you'll relish it. Have fun!!
