Laguna Churup is a great day hike for people hoping to acclimatize or who want to do an easier hike. It will take 1.5 - 2 hours to reach the top and does involve a bit of uphill, but nothing too difficult. The hike is part of the National Park so be ready to pay 10 soles for the day... More

We had planned to do this as a guided hike but ended up going alone. We got a collectivo from Huaraz to Pitec (15 soles each. About an hour journey) and this brings you to the beginning of the trail. It's tough from the start as it's a climb straight away and difficult with the altitude. Very easy route to... More

What a hike! Starting from Llulac up to the National Parc is already worthwhile. The hike to the lake itself starts with a steep path and takes your breath away. In both senses. Because of a thunderstorm we had to abort the last part above 4300m. What a shame.

Easy accessible from Huaraz; hire your own cab driver or sign up for a ride in a mini bus at Casa de Guias or various hotels. You can buy your one-day park pass from the park ranger upon your arrival in Pitec or use your pre-paid pass (valid for 21 days) which you can obtain at the Park Office in... More

Excellent walk for acclimatization, have a swim once you arrive to the lake, especially on a sunny day.

You can get there from Huaraz by Collectivo. Take it to Pitec. Afterwards you will get to the entrance of the national reserve, there you will have to pay 10 soles. The start of the climbing is quite challenging, but the view fron the Mirador on the lake is very satisfying and rewarding.

Great views from the top and a great way to help with the acclimatisation. Lovely little scramble to get up the waterfall to add a little excitement.

I'm 64 and average fitness and found this hike to be pretty difficult. My 25 year old son bounded up way ahead of me - he didn't seem to find the hike to difficult at all. There were a couple of spots where I wasn't sure of the trail, but I guess I was lucky and happened to pick the... More

The hike here is on well-marked trails. It's an hour bus ride from Huaraz. One of the routes involves some scrambling but ropes are available
