It's 40m walk from the entrance to Petra Heritage Site. You will be speechless once you see it, it's totally worth the walk!

Go through the canyon for 1.5 meters and sufficiently you will see it. Amazing. They start building it from the top, very smart people and without internet, mobile, and tv.

The place is absolutely fantastic: the entrance canyon (of fantastic beauty), the treasury itself, the other many tombs around, the theatre, the path to the monastery with its 800+ degrees, the monastery and the breathtaking view not only all the way up but specially when...More

About 4 KM walk from the center and back, or you can choose to ride a horse or horse carriage. However, while the horse can only take you until the siq, the horse's carriage can take you all the way to the Al-Khazana. Be vary...More

I am still wondering how did Nabateans manage to carve the mountain. Beautiful view but I would suggest visiting the site morning to avoid rush and hustle bustle.

superpear, I cannot provide you with a trail map, but the trail uphill to the treasury viewpoint from above starts right after Palace tomb. It's called al-Khubtah rail and from experience of previous travelers it takes... More

Hello dear fellow travelers, I am planning to visit Petra in November. While I have found detailed info regarding access to the view of Treasury from above via the al-Khubtha trail starting from the royal tombs, I also came to know that there is another viewpoint accessible via the Madras trail which is more difficult and guide is recommended. My question is the following: if the second view point is easily accessible (well marked) from the High Place of Sacrifice and if it is doable without a guide. How long will it approximately take for a hike from the High place to the view of treasury from above and back? I am a 24 year old and would like to do it on my own to keep the cost low. Any information will be highly appreciated. Thanks in advance. -Indra P.S- I am quite new to such posting activities, hence pardon me if anything is against the rules of the forum.

I have only done a guided trip where we camped in the desert behind Petra and then entered through the city's back door, avoiding the crowds and having to do only downhill from then on. The trail is not super well marked but... More

You can arrange camel rides locally. However I would strongly recommend against it. The sites worth seeing can only be reached by climbing stairs, which the camels can't do, so you'll be seeing the same area you would see by... More
