    Nice Experience-must see it.
Petra is a famous archaeological place in Jordan. It is very beautiful and must visit. It also world heritage monument. The day trip from Aqaba or Amman is about 2 hours by car. Don't miss it.

    Wothwhile trip.
I am surprised at all the poor reviews. Walking down the Siq at night to see the Treasury building lit up is a great experience, particularly if you have not already visited in daylight. I took a powerful torch and was able to light up the canyon walls on the way down, and recommend doing so. The actual performance is not very memorable, but we liked the candle lit scene and the light show on the Treasury. Quite a long walk, took about 45 minutes down and an hour back.
Thank you for your review! We're glad to hear that you enjoyed the Petra by Night experience and found it to be a magical and unique way to see the iconic site. We appreciate your feedback and hope to see you again soon

    Petra tips
Petra is a fantastic place, ideally go very early to avoid the crowds and the heat. Considering that there are many other things to do nearby (dead sea, aqaba, amman), Bashar was recommended to us (962 7 8776 6438) and he was excellent, he was very punctual, friendly, he knew the places very well, he made our trip a lot more efficient and pleasant. Contacting him is an excellent option.

    Life List Worthy
Starts off with walking though a stunning valley with surrounded by tall beautiful cliffs and then after quite a few minutes you catch your first glimpse of the Treasury and all you can do is smile and say wow. The entire site is filled with with remnants of the past and its just an amazing site to see. The monastery is a bit of a rough hike to get to given all those stairs.. lol but it is really worth it.

    Worth it
All the people giving this experience one * are just not being fair. It takes quite an effort to put up all the candles along the way and organize the chairs at the Treasury. We really enjoyed that. And then just sit there and meditate to the flute music. It doesn’t always have to be spectacular. If you’re there on one of the nights when it’s on and you’re wondering if you should go based on the bad reviews - have a look at the pictures and just go!

    A truly memorable day
We were in Petra in sweltering conditions so two of us traveled in a golf cart the rest walked. The driver was a delight and full of information although some of the local kids drove him mad trying to jump on the back. We had a coffee by the Library and walked about on our own. It is a stand out memory of a memorable holiday. Arriving early was a real bonus

    Awesome and spectacular
I would recommend at least two days to visit Petra as the site is vast. The monuments, in particular the Treasury and the Monastery are spectacular. It is worth getting up early to view the Treasury before the crowds arrive. To get to the Monastery it is quite a hard walk up hundreds of steps but a worth the effort. Good walking shoes or trainers are essential and maybe a walking stick, although it is possible to take donkey both ways if you want to avoid the walk. There are also many other things worth seeing such as the amphitheater, the tombs and just enjoying the views. I would all recommend going to the light show in the evening at the Treasury.

    Wear good walking shoes.
What an amazing place! The walk through to the Treasury is so interesting, so much to see: caves and water channels. Coming out to the Treasury is such a wow moment! There is so much more to it that this, though. The Byzantine church and the royal tombs are great and also accessible. We did not take the steps to the monastery as it was a little too much for me but those who went said it was amazing! Donkey, horse and buggy rides are offered every step of the way and there are lots of stalls selling goods. If you continue over the hill near the Byzantine church, there is a little advertised shuttle bus service which takes you back to the entrance.

Iconic wonder of the modern world. In the bucket list
The splendor of this place is indescribable. The colorful sand stone strata are a nature’s masterpiece. The historic temples and the Bedouin caves. Nature, Art and History as can rarely be found anywhere else.

    Bucket List Checked
We were on a private 14 day trip of Egypt & Jordan. With only 2 couples remaining we flew into Amman Jordan from Cairo. Spent the 2nd day touring Petra. This was a big bucket list item checked off. This is truly a place of wonder at just how all this was built and carved into the stone. So many different cultures have had a hand over thousnds of years in its making. Being high season it was a little crowded but we could move around the larger tours and avoid the crowded spaces. We did the camels for the pictures. You need to set the price up front. There are sales stalls all over & most will over charge for everything. Try to go early while the weather is cool. The rocks do hold in the cold in most of the shaded areas so makes for a nice walk. It can be a rough walk for anyone so be aware that this is a long unpaved & rutted walk. The horses only take you to the start of the walk area. For a cost you can catch a cart that goes all the way to the Treasury but you do miss a lot of the other sites & the view of area as the cart roof blockes out the upper view. The cart will also take you back for a cost.

Petra is grander and more magnificent than any picture can describe. This valley must be experienced and traversed for you to truly grasp the beauty of this place.

My strongest recommendation is to be there by six in the morning. That's around when the site opens, and it's definitely worth skipping the hotel breakfast for this.

Entrance is covered by the Jordan Pass, which is highly recommended to purchase before your trip.

We practically had Petra to ourselves the first hour we were there. On the second day, there were a bit more people at the same time, but it was far from crowded.

The great thing is that the main route back and forth is accessible to most, but you can make the trip more challenging by taking detours that are a bit more physically demanding. I would suggest reading up on these before embarking on them. And wear sensible shoes – ditch the sandals just for this day!

You may experience that people working there are a bit pushy, and want to sell you services like donkey rides or other things. But given the current state of the tourism industry, it was also somewhat understandable.

I also want to comment on how the locals treated the animals. Throughout the day, you encounter some dogs and cats – something we really appreciated. One dog even followed us from the entrance all the way down to the Treasury. But when we got there, the tourist police started throwing rocks at the dog to chase it away. We felt very upset witnessing this, and I hope that comments like this can help change this practice.

And I need to add, to everyone wondering if it's safe to travel to Jordan these days. YES, it's safe. Travel. It's completely safe to travel in Jordan. The tourism industry is struggling right now, and we've experienced that Jordanians are among the friendliest people in the world. So they certainly don't deserve to be punished for what's happening around them. Travel! ❤️

Our driver is Ibrahim Salaman and his contact number is 00962772365512. He was served as our driver and excellent tour guide to our entire tours in Jordan such as Amman, Wadirum, Petra, Jerash, Dead Sea, and in Little Petra. He arranged everything for us specially he chose an excellent hotel with our preferences. Jordan is a wonderful place specially Petra which is one of the wonders in the world. While Wadirum is very relaxing as you will stay in a Bubble Camp which is very unique experience and you will enjoy the sunset as well in the broad dessert. We also enjoyed the Dead Sea and the mud thats good for the skin. Jerash is the second popular attraction in Jordan aside from Petra, it is considered one of the largest and most well preserved sites of Roman architecture in the world outside of Italy. Also, their local foods are so amazing specially the Mansaf which is the National Food of Jordan, very recomended and a must try dish while you are in Jordan. Ibrahim also introduce the local delicacies to us such as Shawerma, Kunafa and Harysah. We also visits the best restaurant here in Jordan.

I hired Ibrahim Salameh whatsapp +00962772365512 . My brother and I came to Jordan for the first time and we hired him for 3 days and 2 nights. We actually had his brother, Mo mostly due to his schedule but Ibrahim offered to take us to the airport on our last day. Both he and his brother were great drivers. We felt safe the entire time and they were nice to talk to. We had a great time and can’t wait to come back to Jordan again!

Petra lives up to its reputation as wonder of the world. The site is large and sprawling and you are constantly amazed by the sheer height and breadth of this ancient city. You can do this with a guide or not as it doesn't make a big difference if you've done some reading.

Before the entrance to Petra, there is a small bookshop among the various souvenir shops that is worth a look as it has many special books on Petra's history.

Waleed as guide was brilliant. Ever thoughtful to our needs as simple tourists by giving his wealth of cultural knowledge and local advice. We visited on two consecutive days various sites in the general vicinity of Amman: Umm Q’ais, Jarash, the Dead Sea and being introduced to the delights of Jordanian cuisine. I heartily recommend his services. Thank you, Waleed! Chris
