The place is amazing but it is wise to book a good guide. There is a lot to see. The entrance us not cheap so make it worth it. And visit Petra at night. That is a must!!!

1. Avoid donkey/horse/camel rides - they are not needed and it just leaves excrement all over the place. The way in is all downhill. If you want a horse ride back it should only cost $5 USD for two horses. Make sure they know this is all you will give them before you get on. 2. Buy the "Petra Guide"... More

Petra lies approximately 280km south of Amman. It's a journey through some of the 80% semi arid desert found in Jordan. Reaching the world heritage site after a 2 hours bus journey by bus is exhausting. The day time temperature is manageable at 18 degree with warm sunlight. From the bus deport you need to go on foot mostly downhill... More

Such an amazing and beautiful place. Lots of walking. Options to take donkey rides, horse rides and camel rides. We took them all. Do not listen to men who tell you they can show you petra in an hour and half by horse. They use dangerous routes to get you around. Up sides of hills, etc. Also, skip the camel... More

Spend a lovely time here for 3 days. Hiked up to Monastery and the High Place of Sacrifice. Worth it. I talked to another person and he said the view from the Crusaders Fort is the best. Bedouins made my last day there stressful and upsetting; hired out a carriage since my travel buddy could not walk the length of... More

really something unusual. there are some walking to do but really worth it. a different place.a different taste of ancient times. only problem is that is is flooded with tourists and the journey to the place may seem long and expensive. but don't leave jordan without seeing it.

Petra is huge. So big that even in peak season you can easily find a spot to sit and enjoy the views, without another soul in sight. It does require a lot of walking so comfortable shoes and clothing is an absolute must. Sand will undoubtedly get into your shoes so it's worth stopping every so often to shake them... More

These ruins are amazing to see! There is a lot of walking required so be prepared with great shoes. Also the one thing I wasn't expecting is that there are lots of vendors selling things or trying to get you to take a camel or donkey ride. It was a bit much in my opinion. However everything else was amazing!
