Virupaksha Temple is located right next to beautiful Tungabhadra river, had to take a ferry to reach to the temple.. Beautiful architecture and huge complex of temples is the reminder of the once flourishing vijayanagar empire.. This can be spotted from the boulders in Hampi Island surrounded by coconut trees which is a beautiful view indeed.. The complex is surrounded by... More

The deity of Vijayanagar & I guess the only temple in Hampi where pooja is still performed. The structure is very beautiful and apart from the usual attractions in the complex, try to visit the back part if the complex. This is visible from morning till early afternoon.

Well preserved architecture, sad to see that it was not better spared by various invaders, still a lot to see and admire. The ancient architecture is stunning. Do not miss the inverted gopura shadow- a pinhole camera effect.

I asked the staff if this elephant ever has contact with her family, they told me yes every few months via Skype to Mysore ! The elephant was rocking from side to side and had a tear rolling out of one eye. I am aware that Ganesh is the Hindu elephant God, but I do not feel that any intelligent,... More

Virupaksha temple is a great temple to visit in Hampi mainly for the scenic views as well as its beautiful gopuram. The location of the temple would charm and enchant any student of temple architecture. There are langurs & monkeys inside the large temple complex that one needs to watch out for. April 11 every year is when the temple... More

The largest temple at Hampi. While UNESCO work on restoration is happening around the temple, lot needs to be done. Begining with cleanliness to proper upkeep of the heritage temple, still lot needs to be done. Makes one proud of heritage after seeing this monument & the market around it.
