24 July, 2016. On a visit to Orchha, we came out of the impressive Raja Mahal (the first structure in the overall area known as the `Orchha Fort'), towards the second large impressive one, the Jahangir Mahal. The entrance is actually from the Raja Mahal side, which makes the visit work up a crescendo, as one goes to the ceremonial... More

You have to pinch yourself to realise how old all these buildings are. Magnificent marble work! The mural paintings unbelievable. If ever I go back I will overnight in Orchha. Needed much more time to slowly enjoy this gem!

The Jahangir mahal - built as an extension of the Raja mahal is a mix of Mughal and Hindu culture - elephants and typical Mughal carvings at each level - Indo Islamic architecture. The place is like a maze across 3 levels with narrow and steep steps. The Jahangir mahal is very artistic and hosts great paintings. They also have... More

This palace was suppose to have been built in the honor of Jehangirs visit to Orchha. Very beautiful architecture a mix of Indian and Islamic style. The four bastions at the four corners with domes are really beautiful.

It was definitely love at first sight. The moment I set my eyes on the monuments of Orchha, I knew that I was going to love this place and my decision to spend two nights at this place was proved absolutely right. Or may be in hindsight I might have to say that two days were too less !!! An... More

This fort or mahal was built for Jahangir's stay for a night. Lovely to go though the entire complex especially at the top levels. Must visit. Part of fort complex It apparently take upto 20 years to build and was built to exercise the tax of the state.

Jehangir Mahal: Built by Raja Bir Singh Ju Deo in the 17th century to commemorate the visit of Emperor Jehangir to Orchha. Its strong lines are counterbalanced by delicate chhatris and trellis work, the whole conveying an effect of extraordinary richness.

If you are interested in and awed by Indian historic architecture then do come and visit this place. The setting, the lovely views inside and outside as well as the imagined court life are just great.
