Very pretty lake. Beware of guides though who do not allow you to go the temple

The entry to the temple town is stopped by guides saying they will show you around for as less Rs.50. They take to the lake first which is very large and beautiful. However ones... read more

It was a dull day and the water was grey and dirty. I can appreciate it's not our religion and we can't understand the holiness of it all. We were constantly hassled for money, to buy things and make donations and it was very wearing, which probably affected our attitude.

The entry to the temple town is stopped by guides saying they will show you around for as less Rs.50. They take to the lake first which is very large and beautiful. However ones main aim is to visit the Brahma temple and then the lake. Beware of these boys giving you a prasad thali and then asking you to... More

Yep this has to be one of the most disappointing sites in Rajasthan. Seriously the lake is tiny but the worst thing about it is all the con artist performing the "Pusher passport scam. This is where they give you a flower take you down to the lake get you to recite some incantation in Hindu....saying you promise to give... More

It's a spectacular place to see and enjoy the view. Difficult to walk around or approach the lake - there are people constantly trying to sell you flowers and convince you to participate in the rituals, no chance to sit alone, rules and restrictions, less chill than for example ghats in Rishikesh.

We were warned by our taxi driver NOT to take on any of the local guides. The driver said it was a rip off. It certainly was. One guide said he would simply explain the history of the place for Rs 20 (there were four of us) and told us offerings cannot be done at the temple. We took him... More

This was the most offensive and awful part of our visit to India. Our guide was partly to blame by claiming that there would a prayer for our family done by a priest and then there would be an ask for a donation but "trust me" it is totally voluntary and you give whatever you like. But in the prayer,... More

Pushkar is small and has a lot of expat, hippy tourists just hanging and smoking out. The only thing it has more of is cows. There is a pretty important Hindu temple here and a yearly camel fair. I came. I saw. I would have rather spent another day in Udaipur.
