Almost as if we haven't lost a moment of time... Telegraph Avenue in Berkeley is still so reminiscent of the 60's that you will feel as if you have traveled back in time when you visit Telegraph Avenue in Berkeley. The shops and eateries are a mix of quintessential hippie-dom mixed with the current U.C. Berkeley modern day student. Both seem to blend together in a medley that makes shopping and eating here almost a cultural or historical trek as well as a great shopping one.

Telegraph goes from downtown Oakland where store fronts to tiny art venues. Suddenly blocks of new building under construction, homeless folks and trash, more new small eatery. Opposite direction end less build, established small business toward Berkeley. All properties is sale for sale but great...More

The Telegraph Avenue I remember from 50 years ago was vibrant, with lots of interesting restaurants and shops. Some of these survive, but there are too many empty storefronts and a disconcerting number of homeless people. Other memories of Berkeley are undisturbed, but this memory...More

Telegraph Avenue is a main road that runs between the Berkeley Campus and Oakland. It's interesting from a people watching perspective. There are some interesting stores but also many empty store fronts.

Some of my family live in the Bay Area, and we visited Telegraph Avenue for nostalgia and updates. There are still several bookstores and coffeehouses, new and older fun and fresh restaurants. But there are also plenty of signs of decay, both human and architectural....More

Telegtaph Avenue starts at the UC Berkeley campus and ends about four miles away in downtown Oakland. It has some heavy car/truck traffic in places. Nevertheless, some of the most congested areas have designated bike lanes. Sidewalks are wide its entire length. The first five...More

Lots of interesting shops and inviting restaurants. Lots of Locals there. As we got close to campus there were mor homeless but they did not bother us. (No panhandling or hassles.) Felt sad seeing them tucked into the "safe" doorways for the night but they...More

We go for a snack and the bookstores. So we are there for quite sometime. Park the car and then walk and walk turn around and then walk to the car. Always stuff to look at and sometimes buy. Endless cast of characters; students and...More

The street scene here goes back over 50 years, the vibe is about the same counter culture thing that it has always been, just the charactors change as well as the shops ... This is another part of Berkeley ... .. .

Great People Watching and unique shopping with a nod to the ^0's and the Summer of Love. The home of the Free Speech Movement and amazing new restaurants.

Telegraph avenue illustrates what to avoid in Berkeley, dirty street, homeless people begging. Or maybe we shouldn't avoid it. It is our unpleasant reality.

It probably depends on the vendor. There's an excellent Chinese bakery across from campus that I visited about 9 am. I didn't see street vendors then. They were there in the afternoon. It probably depends on the day of the... More
