If you want to get to know Berkeley quickly, just take a long walk down this street...you can "recover" with a drink at Chez Panisse restaurant.

Wide variety of unusual shops and exotic food places. You could eat out every day for a week and not cover all the different type of restaurants.

This picture is of Chez Panisse on Shattuck so I assume we mean the Berkeley North Side. Many good restaurants, including Cheese Board Pizza (with live music many evenings of the week), Mint Leaf, Barneys Burgers, Asian vegetarian, more Thai on the corner, etc. Chez Panisse is the star but you need reservations 3 months in advance to get a... What a gem- the Crossroads Consignment store. Ended up buying a Kate Spade and a See by Chloe leather bag. Both in great condition, both cheaper than regular used-retail price.

Stroll and shop on Shattuck Ave, as you walk along restaurants, cafes, stores, bookshops, bakeries, and whatever else tickles your fancy.

Shattuck Avenue is an incredibly long street, extending north from Oakland, to and through Berkeley. Recently, I took a 1 1/2 mile walk from the Berkeley Bowl north into the "Gourmet Ghetto." It was very interesting. From car dealerships and auto repair shops through an area with housing going up to the University area, with bookstores and computer shops, finally... More

The Gourmet Ghetto is a wonderful several block long shopping district. Home to Chez Panise and The Cheeseboard and the Thursday afternoon organic farmers' market, among other things. Definitely stop by The Cheeseboard. If you ask for a type of cheese, they will pull out several and give you tastes of each until you find what you want. An extensive... More

There are few better and easier places to visit, and you'll find tons of entertainment and restaurants. Shattuck Avenue is upscale Berkeley. But upscale Berkeley is still pretty laid back. There are a few movie theaters where you might find an interesting film. But the crowd is mixed and eclectic. The restaurants are affordable and most are good. The vagrants... More

Always good for a wander. Some quite nice restaurants and other blocks of winos and derelicts. Drive along first and decide what you want to see.

We have been on Shattuck Avenue many many times. This time we arrived on Bart at the Shattuck Station. We enjoyed dinner on Shattuck at Revival Bar and Kitchen. It has a full bar and good food. There are many trendy gourmet places to dine on Shattuck Avenue including the legendary Chez Panisse in North Berkeley. There is also budget... More
