We went in May. The weather was perfect, but not many people were there. This is a small museum. It features a number of small, stuffed local animals as well as a small geology exhibit. They offered free tours of the local surrounding led by a docent. We learned about the local flora and fauna as well as about the... More

This place is a nice little building with lots of nature-based displays. It has its own small hiking trail with educational signage. Clean bathrooms and free parking. It is worth the drive over from the other side of the lake if you have an interest in nature and the surrounding forests.

Very fun, very hands on. Children loved it. The 1/2 mile hike was amazing. We kinda went off the trail, which I don't recommend, but still very beautiful.

I always take people who are new to Big Bear to this Discovery Center. They have maps of the local trails and lots of information about the local animals including some taxidermy models. Behind the main building is an amphitheater where talks and concerts are held.

The ranger led walk was enjoyable and informative. The rangers and docents were helpful with questions and kid activities.

The center is equipped with informative data about Big Bear Lake. Its location is very accessible from both the Lake area and the City area and it is on the side of the mountain that the drive going there is quite a scenic route and during our visit to Big Bear Lake the snow added beauty to the scenery. Once... More

The center is your one stop information shop on local trails, wildlife, and obtaining wilderness permits. Friendly and knowledgeable rangers are available to answer questions about the area and occasionally lead short ranger hikes. In the winter months you can learn to snow shoe here. You can also obtain a National Park Pass, a daily Forest Pass needed to park... More

Big Bear Discovery Center is a gem in Big Bear! The ladies inside genuinely love what they do and helping people. They are never too busy to answer any question you have, even if it's not Discovery Center related. There is a beautiful easy trail you can walk with the entire family including little ones.
