Having read about Bodie and grown up with the old western movies, this was a place I was keen to visit and explore. Once you turn off the highway, the paved road ends after several miles and becomes a ‘dirt’ road. This isn’t the most...More

My husband and I took our 2 granddaughters, aged 10 and 7, to Bodie and we all thoroughly enjoyed it. We spent about 3 hours wandering around and the kids were not bored. Lots to see. Get the self guided guide book.

I loved my visit here! It is well worth making time to come here (you can spend 1/2 day and absorb a lot). It is such a fascinating place. The state park has done a great job of preserving the buildings. Take your time as...More

Camping in Eastern Sierras, I put a visit to this state park town on my to do list. The town is accessed by exiting US 395 at Highway 270. You’ll travel east for 13 miles on a curving, scenic drive. Please note the last 3...More

Was a wonderful experience seeing the buildings as they were when the town was thriving. Only thing I would change is the Ranger collecting money at the entrance, she was SO slow, took us a VERY long time to get up to the booth.

You won’t find Bodie an easy place to get to, especially considering that three-mile approach on a poorly-maintained gravel road, the washboard sections of which might jar the fillings out of your teeth if you drive too fast. Admission costs eight bucks a head, too....More

Bodie is a fascinating State Park. Although only 10% of the buildings still exist, they are well cared for, and give a great snapshot of life here during its heyday. We did the Stamp Mill tour, which I would highly recommend. They are first come...More

I have nothing bad to say about this site, nothing. I would recommend a trip to Bodie to anyone. There is about a 3 mile drive on a gravel type road when the interstate ends so you'll be a little rattled when you get there...More

I've come here multiple times in the last 20 years. On one hand, it's extremely sad to see the decline. I know they have a hard time with upkeep of everything - but it is hard to see it change over time. Every time I...More

Living just a couple of hours away, most of my life, I have heard countless tales about Bodie from many people. Finally planning to trek out there, I was surprised by the mix of opinions here, on TripAdvisor. As a travel coordinator, I'm used to...More

Hi Amy, the length of your visit would depend on your interest level. You could quickly skip through the main street area, peeking in windows etc and be back on your way in an hour. Alternatively, having endured the... More
