When arriving at Chateau Montelena, you are first struck by the obvious beauty of the grounds. The European facade on the winery is unique and the duck pond with Pagoda's is beautiful. In the tasting room, we found it crowded with a wait. Our guide...More

Some of the people in the party didn't drink so we took them here for a nice walk around Jade Lake. The setting is gorgeous and we really enjoyed the swans. We did go into the tasting room. It's lovely and the staff was very...More

If you have read about the Judgement of Paris (1976) then you know this winery is one of the ones responsible for putting Napa on the world stage. We visited in the afternoon for a ‘library tasting’ after visiting Stag’s Leap (whose Cabernet took the...More

This place is absolutely amazing. The grounds are beautiful and the wine superb. The tasting fee is in line with other fine wine wineries. Allow some extra time to walk around the lake and take some pictures.

Unfortunately, Chateau Montelena suffers from its fame. The grounds and castle are beautiful, but very limited in terms of walkable area. So many people are coming, in waves, that you have to queue up for a tasting. There are signs everywhere telling you what you...More

Having read all about the famous judgment of Paris in 1976, where Napa first landed on the map from a blind tasting arranged by a British wine buyer, with Montelana’s Chardonnay and Stag’s Leap’s Can doing the same, had to go. Not crazy about Calistoga,...More

The grounds are absolutely stunning and the wine was phenomenal. However, the service was lackluster. The tasting was rushed and there were no explanations about the wine. We were trying to be upsold the entire time, which is understandable, but it would have been better...More

The Chateau Montelena was kind of the responsible winery to put Napa Valley in the world map, so if you like wines you have to go to Chateau Montelena. It is not chip, but has a lot of history and the place is nice and...More

If you've seen Bottle Shock, or know a bit of wine history, you'll know that Chateau Montelena is well known for winning the Judgement of Paris" competition, so visiting is a must-do for any wine lover. Here, the beauty of the grounds perhaps outweighs the...More

We had to visit the legendary Chateau Montelena that put Napa Valley on the map. The property is kept up nicely with bridges and ponds. Staff is friendly and knowledgeable. Tasting room was festively decorated for the holidays. Great wines, and also excellent port.

I would recommend making a reservation and it's as easy as sitting in their parking lot and calling! That's all it takes!
