A wonderful walk along a beautiful section of coast. The trails are relatively easy and the adjacent landscape changes as you go. A true delight. Homes along the road that you take to get to the main trailhead are also quite interesting.

Beautiful coastal preserve with spectacular views and wonderful handmade driftwood benches every so often. Otters and seals abound. Many dog walkers. Really a lovely, lovely place to walk when in Cambria.

We took the coastal trail. This is an easy "hike" with outrageous coastal views. Uncountable number of Pelicans flying, diving, and resting on the ocean waves. So cool to see them up close. There are benches for resting or just communing with nature. Next time I would like to take the forest trail.

Enjoyed a great walk! Began by the ocean then went up into the woods - felt like a different place! Even though it was cloudy it was very enjoyable.

Great views and good weather even in the summer. My Mom easily did the trail with her Rollator walker. Nice benches. Saw a few sea otters.

We just got back from a trip to Cambria, where we visited Fiscalini, as we'd heard it was worth a trip. We were unprepared for the beauty of this place. There were gorgeous flowers in profusion. The juxtaposition of the blooms next to the ocean was incredible. We saw many people walking dogs here. Lucky dogs! There are wonderful oversized benches where you can relax (regular benches, too). People sit by the water, mesmerized by the waves, lost in quiet contemplation of the beauty around and in front of them. We would happily return to Cambria just to take another hike here.

Breathtaking views and great trails. Entrance is free. There are quite a few trails and a good trail map as you enter the Preserve. A number of different entrances as well.

We only did the Forest trail. I was so enthralled with the quantity and variety of mushrooms, I forgot to look up for Monarch butterflies 🦋. Lovely forest walk. Easy trails with good signage.

This is a wonderful preserve. If you want a nice seaside stroll you can keep to the boardwalk near the ocean. Sometimes it is windy. It is always beautiful. If you want a hike, take the seaside trail and then make your way up the hill into the woods. It is vey magical there. We have run into deer that last two times and there are other surprises too. Stay on the trails as there is a lot of poison oak. In the wet season some of the ravines are pretty wet so some good boots can come in handy. The trails are not well marked, but you can find your way around easily enough from the views. There is no way you could get truly lost, because you have Highway 1, the ocean, and two neighborhoods surrounding the preserve.

Great area for hiking with trails with something for all. We were lucky in that one of the trailheads was the front yard of the house we were renting. This took the hiker into the more wooded area and a little more challenging for older less experienced hikes. There was also a sign to take a bell in case of bears that made a few in the group a little nervous. However, lower near the beach there is parking and more level and easier paths to traverse. Parking is on the north and south ocean ends of the preserve. There are benchs through out the paths for small breaks or to take in the beauty of the area. Weather was great, lots of sun. Can't go wrong with this area for a little exercise and communing with nature. Best part - no charge!

How do I get to San Simeon from Cambria

Drive north on that beautiful California 1 highway. Watch for zebras on the east side of the highway and you're there. Just wish we were too.
Are emotional support animals allowed on the hiking trails?

Yes but must be on a leash at all times.

Private or public? Hours? Access road?

It is public. There is parking at either end, though neither is very large. They are both through lovely residential areas. We usually park on the north end. You turn off Hwy 1 like you are going to Moonstone Beach BUT instead of immediately bearing right to the beach you go straight and just follow it to the end where there is parking.

How far is Fiscalini ranch from Benson Avenue in Cambria?
krk44
California53 contributions
It depends from where you are on Benson Avenue. We are almost at the farthest eastern point of Benson which is about a mile to a mile and a half to the ranch. It is all down hill on Randall and from there you can walk to the Bluff Trail (Lampton to Windsor) or go a little farther on Lampton to Sherwood which is the last street closest to the ocean. However you don't see much of the ocean but the houses are all different and interesting to look at. Going back there are different routes you can take but they are all uphill and some steeper than others. If you are going to the Bluff Trail there is parking at the trailhead and you may want to drive there and then walk on the bluffs to Seaclift Estates homes (Windsor Blvd) and come back. This is a very popular walk and you can return the way you came or use the middle trail which goes back to the parking area.

I was wondering about fleas, ticks, mosquitos -- were your dogs bothered by any of these?
krk44
California53 contributions
We have not been bothered with fleas or ticks as we stay on the trails. Dogs are suppose to be on a leash which prevents them from going off trail where there could be ticks and fleas but as I mentioned our dog has never gotten them. Also we have never been bothered with mosquitos and I would know because they love me! The only thing I would warn you about is if you take a trail through the forest there is poison ivy or poison oak next to the path and in a few places you might need to step over a few leaves. I can get it from my dog if she touched either of those plants but she is small so I can carry her and prevent the oil from getting on her fur should she touch the plant so I have not gotten it. Other than that we have always had a great experience every time we are at the preserve.
