I was in Carlsbad in October on business. Went to Carlsbad beach and enjoyed a lovely stroll along the beach, probably walked 5 miles or so on it. Great way to kill some time and a change from sitting in hotel bars and restaurants.
Clean restrooms. Cleaned daily. Plenty of toilet paper. Beautiful bluff side campsites with a wonderful cool breeze. Very nice and helpful staff. Beach is a bit rocky, not much shoreline and is close to a bustling roadway but the campground makes up for it. I...More
Beautiful views, challenging with all the rocks. We finally found a good spot in downtown Carlsbad to access the beach. Not a great beach but still relaxing to put your toes in the sand and stroll along the beach
This is what you picture when you imagine a California beach. Beautiful ocean views, especially at sunset and surfing when the weather is right. There is pay parking and some street parking but the place seemed pretty full on a sunny fall day. If you're...More
This local beach is very close to the road and easily accessible. There is both street parking with meters and free areas in the residential area. There is also a small parking lot.
The beach is very clean and has a large sand area for...More
Spouse Having Open Heart Surgery in LA in December came along. Carlsbad beaches! Parking never a problem! Easy axis! Hotels ride along the beach! Campsites right along the beach! Overnight sites beautiful for camping!
Worth every moment. Free parking on street. Walked around on sand next to water barefoot and enjoyed my time so relaxing and got all my steps in for the day! Would go again in a heart beat next time I visit!!!

Hi, I am a Carlsbad resident and my husband is 98 years old. We like to park near the Best Western and walk the sidewalk above the beach. There is also a sidewalk down close to the sand, with a sloping asphalt path down to it. Up until about 2 years ago, we walked there, as it is easier to hear the waves and watch ground squirrels. However, the sidewalk is easy and relatively flat. Most of Carlsbad is flat and walkable, including with a walker or cane. We often also walk above the flower fields, even when they are not in bloom. This gives a different view of the ocean. To get there, drive south on the Coast Hwy to Cannon Rd or Palomar Airport Road and turn left. On Cannon, you would turn right onto Legoland Drive and then keep right on Armada rather than continuing to Legoland. Park anywhere along the road there and walk. Also, the Gemological Institute of American allows people to visit the museum part of the Institute, with AT LEAST ONE DAY's notice. Look it up on line and contact them with the day you would like to come. I think the hours for guests are 1 - 3:30 pm, M-Thurs. This is fascinating if you are at all interested in gems, rocks, petrified wood, etc. If you turn on Palomar Airport Rd, you'd go to the traffic signal past Costco (on the right) and turn left onto Armada.
