We attended Sunday mass here and the church is beautiful. The grounds are so historic having been established in 1771.

Lots of history in the building! I heard that it was just recently renovated to be more structurally sound in the event of an earthquake. They left "peek a boo" spots in the wall to see the original building materials and stone. Very pretty, old fashioned church. Mass schedule can be found on line.

We visited the Mission on our way to Big Sur for a day of hiking. We spent about 2 hours there and it was well worth the time. The Mission is beautiful and not too big, but there's enough to see to justify the time and the admission cost. Take the time to read the plaques and see the museum.

This mission is one of the oldest, and was home to Junipero Serra for some time. It has remnants of the first library in California, dating back to the late 18th century. The mission was restored in the 1930s and is very well maintained, with small museums on the ground and signboards explaining the history of the mission. Worth an... More

walking along the corridors, the deserts palms and coloured cacti, seeing dust whipped up by the wind, was as if Father Junipero Serra was around the corner carrying out his ministry to the native dwellers in the 1770’s, about as long ago as the founding of the US the sky was starting to get dark as we were arriving for... This place has stunning architecture, peaceful gardens, peaceful grounds to walk in and a great place to learn about the El Camino Real history. I love the fences, wrought iron, lights and buildings throughout. Father Serra would have loved to see how well this mission is cared for in modern times.
