Lovely food and ambiance!
Aug 2021
We mostly loved this place! The patio and setting are amazing. The food is really good -- especially the octopus. OMG, amazing! The wine was really good, but sort of overwhelming and not much pacing or pairing. We got two tastings to share (so basically tasted 6 wines) and it was just SO much -- our taste buds were dead. I think next time I'd ask for a taste or two of something that looked good, and then order a glass to have with my meal. But all in all, a very enjoyable outing and we'd definitely go again!

DO NOT COUNT ON YOUR RESERVATION BEING HONORED
Aug 2021
RESERVATION CANCELLED BY FOLKTAIL

We had booked with Folktail for my 60 birthday a large party of 14 people. ONE WEEK PRIOR they called to inform us that the winery had been bought out for the night and were cancelling my reservation. The person that I spoke to on the phone said that this was a frequent occurrence for the winery to be bought out by large parties.

DO NOT COUNT ON YOUR RESERVATION BEING HONORED by Folktail Winery.

Loved it so much we joined as members!

Folktale has everything you need to add a bit of magic to your week - great wine, amazing farm-to-table pizza and salads, live music, wonderful staff, great ambiance, and a lovely gift shop. We were visiting Carmel and spent the best afternoon here. If we lived in the area, I'm sure my husband and I would return regularly. We joined as wine club members to keep our experience going back home in Texas.

We especially loved the Pinot selection, and I was a huge fan of the cucumber salad. Seriously, random, I know, but don't miss the cucumber salad!

Beautiful setting for a romantic lunch!
Jul 2021
This was our first experience at Folktale. We will definitely come again. The winery is nestled in the beautiful Camel Valley. Seating out on the grounds surrounded by the winery, lights, wine barrels, is very nice. Feels like a picnic. This is not a cheap lunch but it is a lot of fun. We enjoyed the charcuterie platter with the walnut and greens salad and finally a pizza to finish. They offer a "flight" of three wines to taste. They pours are very small however, about 3oz. Better to pay a little more and order a couple of glasses instead. We loved our visit and will come again.

Hangover hustle
Jun 2021 • Couples
The winery should serve actual wine. In all fairness, the wine at Folktale is barely drinkable. The ambiance is reminiscent of a college campus surrounded by a lovely garden. If your 23, want to drink a bit of swill and make out in the parking lot, this is your place. Imminently forgettable.

Before Making A Reservation
May 2021
This review is for the reservation system only. Be warned that if you need to cancel your reservation, you will not receive your $15 per person deposit. There is nothing about that on the website so you'll be in for a surprise if you need to cancel. I tried contacting the winery three times with no response. There is no need for them to keep a deposit for no services rendered, especially when you cancel two weeks in advance.

Best Place to Relax and Taste Wine!
Mar 2021 • Friends
Awesome outdoor garden eating and wine tasting area, frequent live music. The wines are good, but not the best the area has to offer. The overall ambiance and environment, however, can’t be beat! Beautiful place to sit outside and relax with friends with some wine, food and if you are lucky, live music.

Great experience with takeout during COVID. Beautiful grounds and great service.
Nov 2020
Were in Carmel Valley during COVID. Folktale did offer by reservation tastings in their beautiful outdoor area. What gorgeous grounds they have. But we did takeout of a bottle of wine and dinner.

The Pinot was fantastic- normally we like Oregon Pinots but really liked this too.

The food was delicious particularly the Pizzas (Margherita was the best), Meatballs and Brussel Sprouts.

Definitely will be making this a frequent stop on future visits to Carmel

Wine Picnic
Sep 2020
Did a tasting with my family in the garden area. The provided food was okay but the best part was the beautiful setting in an outside Covid safe space.

Wine Bar in the time of Covid
Sep 2020
Stopped in recenty when we were in the area because in a former life this had been Chateau Julien and we had souvenir glasses from Julien at home. In the time of Covid, Folktale has become a comfortable outdoor wine bar. No tour, and not much attempt to inform or educate about their wines, but a good stop for lunch or appetizers, nevertheless. Actually, the pizza we ordered was quite good. The bottle of rose was perfectly fine although it was a blend of California grapes, not local at all. But it was great to be in a comfortable outdoor space that felt safe. As we people watched, we noticed there were quite a few locals mixed with the tourists including a group of young mothers with their toddlers! I believe a flight of wines as well as glasses of wines are also offered, but the server seemed more of a waitress and no time to chat about wine.
