We visited here with my son's fourth grade class field trip over the week of April 10. This is a park that can easily take up the whole day and we pretty much spent the majority of the day here before leaving for Sacramento Airport. Unfortunately, it rained off and on all day and the water level in the American... More

We enjoyed this wonderful state historic park. It's all about the Gold Rush of 1849 or '49ers. Well documented place in the park. Some had staff to talked to you about being a 49er. My 3rd Great Grandfather was a gold miner for a little of a year, so this made it special for me. Only cost was for parking... More

This is a really well done park. You can tell the docents, museum staff, and other workers truly care about preserving and sharing the world-changing history that took place here. The $3 per person, ~1 hour tour was well worth doing. The exhibits and signs are interesting for all ages, and they do a nice job of telling the history... More

The California State Parks department has done a phenomenal job here at the Marshall Golf Discovery Site. The reproduction of Sutter's Mill brings history to life. Informative signs located around the park give an excellent description of the history that occurred here.

it is not only for kids, but a great history lesson for everyone. A lot of information and visuals of how California was born, about people from around the world coming and starting their new life. And just a great feeling to stay at the same spot where all of it was born.

Awesome new visitors center and they just rebuilt the working replica of Sutter's Mill. Great for kids or those who are into the Gold Rush. The Spring and Fall are the best times to visit.

Having recently moved to CA, this was a really nice place to learn about the states history and what shaped America through the mid 1800's to really today. There was plenty of area for the kids to run, the visitors center was nicely done, and the tour was very informative. Our oldest child has a report on the gold rush... More

Small, quaint and quiet, Marshall Good Discovery Park in Coloma is one of the most important historic landmarks in the west. Site of Marshall's discovery of a nugget in the tailrace of John Sutter's never-finished mill—and the California Gold rush was on. There are great docent-led tours (in period dress), an excellent visitor's center and museum, gold-panning, picnicking, river access,... More

My first visit to CA and my friend took me here while sightseeing in the area. I really enjoyed this stop. The grounds are lovely and there is also a small museum that is interesting, as well as other exhibits which explain about the people that once lived and mined here. This is a great day trip for kids and... More

Historic gem. Nice small museum. Lots of interpretive information, signs and open areas to run with kids. Many old buildings, implements etc. walking through the park was like walking through history.. Very family friendly.
