Whale sharks can be seen in a small barangay Tan-awan, which is 10 km away from the center town of Oslob. Whale shark watching in Cebu started last September 2011 and it became popular all over the world when the news hit in the internet last November 2011. By December 2011, local fishermen's interact with the whale sharks by feeding them that result to flocking of tourist to the beach of Tan-awan. Large numbers of tourists began arriving in Oslob not just to see the whale sharks being fed but also to snorkel or dive with them.

This was a great experience and surprisingly well organised. There's not much that compares to this around the world. I was without my wife and kids but if you have children I think they would enjoy swimming with the whale sharks if they can use a snorkel and mask. Not sure if they have children's sizes so maybe check this... More

It was an amazing visit. I like swimming with them. They are so gentle. I also liked that there were guidelines prior the "contact with the butandings" (whalesharks). The guidelines both protect the humans and the whales. Like, sunscreens are not allowed, no touching or close contact with the whales, there is time limit, no flash photographies and many more.... The place is in a remote part of Cebu, the place is super crowded, no place to park and expensive. The Whale shark viewing experience lasts less than 30 mins. If you decide to go there go at 7am, later in the day you may wait over an hour to see the Whalesharks. Exploitation of Whalesharks at its best, it... More

When we first arrived, we were told to maintain a 4 metre distance from the whale sharks at all times. However, as soon as you get into the water you quickly come to realise that's not possible! Partly because there are so many of them swimming around you, and partly because there were people throwing shrimp in our direction, prompting... More

My kids & my wife, together with my cousins family experience this one of kind encounter with this amazing sea giants. Quite bit sad to see them get domesticated for tourist attraction though they are being taken care by the municipal tourism. Just a bit disappointing with the assigned banka operator to us because not bit of little help during... More

We did this through Cyan Adventures. It was just an incredible humbling experience. Truly amazing and a must do if you go to Cebu.

Long drive from Cebu City, over three hours. Avoid week ends and holiday periods to avoid big crowds and try to be there as early in the morning as possible.

The whale sharks are so beautiful it's defiantly amazing to see them but sad how they're just swimming for the food and not naturally. Scientists have said that it is interfering with their migration therefore effecting the whale sharks. They're not inclosed or harmed in any way just effecting their migrations which is not natural. It's defiantly an experience but... More

Do this once in your life! It was surreal! Don't settle in just watching them from the boat. You have to let go your fear and swim. The boatmen will assist you if you are not a good swimmer and would glady offer to take pictures. We gave them 300 tip. You should have an underwater camera to capture those... More
