Getting to Catalina Island is not cheap $300.00 round trip. We had myself, my wife and two teenage girls. We departed from Dana Point to Catalina and then from Catalina to San Pedro to get our rental car for the rest of our California trip....More

We found the pre-boarding and parking process to be a bit disorganized. The staff will not allow you to check in the day before so you have to arrive at least an hour before boarding (so an hour and 15 before departure) and stand around...More

I've taken the Catalina Express several times from Dana Point to Catalina. The boat is on time, clean and in good running order. The staff is professional, informative and helpful. The seating is indoor and outdoor and very comfortable. The best part is the wildlife viewing...More

I'm taking my husband for an overnight getaway for his birthday so we are very excited for first visit. These are the things CE could improve on: 1-Better instructions on what to do when you get to Dana Point, like picking up boarding pass and...More

Expect to see whales and dolphins on the way to and from. We rented a small outboard at the dock on arrival and had a great time just cruising around the the East face of the island all day. Caught a lot of fish too!...More

The check in was a very bad experience. We paid $117.50 for parking, however I am handicapped and parking is free if you park in the handicapped places and display your placard. I went back to the window and they refunded me (on my card)...More

Fast and fun way to get to Catalina Island. The Captain slowed down briefly as we saw multiple groups of dolphins (25+ Dolphins total) swimming alongside the ferry, and we still made it to Avalon on time (in about 1 hour and 20 minutes). It...More

A recent trip across a very choppy surf - to Avalon from DP - showed us that the crew on the Express really know their job and care about passengers. Many (if not most) of the passengers became seasick at some point during the hour...More

Took the morning boat trip to Catalina. Rented a golf cart to drive around the island - best thing to do. It took a little more than two hours at a leisurely pace. Then onto the return boat.

Some of the boats are worn and some of the crew lack customer service ethic but all and all they do a good job as a shuttle to and fro this little floating beach town called Catalina.

I'm thinking you are asking about Dana Point before embarkation. There are a few restaurants at the marina, and an excellent outdoor cafe for bagel/egg sandwiches or oatmeal and coffee/juice/smoothies. We enjoy breakfast at... More

Is there another parking lot besides the $14 a day lot? Someone mentioned a "remote lot" and a shuttle back to the ferry? We are spending 3 nights in Catalina, so the $14 a day adds up!

Which Catalina Express are you taking? Parking is convenient from Dana Point but limited, San Pedro and Long Beach both have parking and probably about that price

Hi, My hubby and I are flying to LAX next week and need transfers from airport to Long Beach Catalina Express. The on the return trip we need transfer to Downtown San Diego from the Dana Point Catalina Express. I think I can use Red Van or Karmel from Lax but don't want this ride to take longer than our flight from the East coast. I do not believe that these shuttls run from Dana Point? Uber? Which I have not used yet. Want easy but not to $$. Thanks

I have had good success with Super Shuttle, although I have not used them to San Diego. They have ExecuCar that doesn't make additional stops to pick-up passengers. Try them
