My wife and I have been up to Cuyamaca Ranco a couple of times in the last few weeks hiking various trails before it gets too cold when winter sets in. There are miles of great hikes that are relatively uncrowded. On two different hikes ranging from 7 to 8 miles the only other people we came across were a... More

We (my son, his girlfriend, and I) spent the past weekend at the park. I booked a cabin (Live Oak) about a month before our visit. The cabin was primitive (wood burning stove, full bunks and thats all). I called ahead to let the park know that we would be arriving later than we thought and to get details of... More

Couldn't stay long here but long enough to want to go back. Just a beautiful drive we ended up taking from the Salton Sea into San Diego. We even saw some Wild Turkeys running around. Great for picnics, hiking and just relaxing. Check it out.

One of the best state parks in San Diego county. We always do Stonewall Peak, which is a fairly easy trail for me. It was more of a challenge for my 6 year old, but he loves sitting at the top and looking out (great panoramic views of the lake and valley area). Also love Cuyamaca Peak, but is a... More

Coming from Wisconsin, I always disliked how many people are on the trails immediately around San Diego. I am used to quiet, less-populated hikes and sought a similar experience in California. Although it is about an hour away from San Diego, it was well worth the drive. The drive itself was absolutely stunning, and my fiance and I agreed that... More

This hike is great and safe for kids! I have been here several times and I enjoy the hike every time! The campground here is fun too! They don't have activities like the Oakzanita camp, but customer service is awesome here too! Park is well taken care of!

Beautiful campground. Trails everywhere and the hike to Stonewall Peak is worth the climb. If you're a runner or mountain biker this campground does not disappoint. Cold Stream Trail to Vern Whitiker trail. You can get on Cold Stream trail right next to Stonewall Peak trail head. Just across the road from the campground.

The elevation gain is about 1600 feet from the parking lot to the peak. Dogs are ok on leash on the main fire road to the peak. Takes about two hours without frequent rests and about two and a half with plenty of needed stops. At the top, you can literally see for a hundred miles on a clear day.... More

Great parf for a SoCal experience that is not Ocean based. If you like to hike you have many options such as Stonewall Peak, Cuyamaca Peak, Lake Cuyamaca, and Stonewall Mine. TIPS: $8 parking fee for day-use parking. Bring binoculars for birding. Bring water and sunscreen.

We've camped with our RV here many times and we still are amazed that a beautiful forest campsite is available less than an hour from downtown San Diego! The tent and RV sites are $30 a night and all come with a picnic table and fire pit. Lots of space between spots, so you have plenty of privacy. The bathrooms... More
