On October. 27, I visited the area of the restroom at the Swami's Beach. I saw a shirtless man sitting in a bench. As I was walking toward the entrance of the stairs, he approached me with a belt on his hands and was yelling at me. He told me that he was working to keep the area clean, and he demanded that I pay him a large sum of money. I asked him whether he got paid to do his work. He said "no." That is why he came to me for remedying his unpaid work. Then I realized that he was not an employee of the city. I asked him why he did not get a real job. He said that he tried many times but no one would hire him since he had many criminal records. Once again I asked him why he did not apply for a job at farms. He said that he did not want to work in hard labor. So I just could not believe that the city had allowed these two characters to solicit Park visitors. I guessed that there have been many conflicts between these clowns and visitors. Therefore I predicted that it will eventually lead to a formal complaint against the city.

Yes that’s right, no more sand anywhere near here. Very rocky beach and dangerous to traverse. Need to be very careful and not advised for older folks. The walk down the steps and watching the sea is always welcomed

So I’m not sure what happened to Swami’s Beach but in 2016 it was a beautiful white sand beach and now all the sand is gone and replaced with rocks. Very difficult to walk on as they are deep and one can easily fall as I did twice. I compared my pictures from 2016 and those I took yesterday and it looks completely different.
The view from the top is still beautiful but be careful if you go down to the “beach”.
I have added pics from 2016 to this review so folks can see the difference. Maybe someone offer some insight?

Highly recommend. The view from the parking lot above the ocean is amazing and only gets better as you walk closer to the water. Resembles Hawaii. Lots of surfers riding waves. Cool place.

Nice beach with amazing views. Easy to find and get onto. Popular with surfers. While we were there we saw a group of 6-7 dolphins swimming just off the shore

Breathtaking views you can’t take your eyes off of. The weather was perfect when we went and the waves were stronger. The parking is right at the vista spot and a staircase takes you down to the shore. If you don’t want to go up/down, there are plenty of benches to enjoy the view from.

There is a small parking lot above the beach and more parking along the street. This is a nice clean beach with small tidepools for the kids to play in.

We took our grandkids here to check out the tide pool. The small parking lot was full but street parking was available. Great vista of the majestic ocean from the street level; the palm trees nearby added to the calming ambience. Lots of surfers carrying long boards descended the steep staircase to reach the beach with seeming ease. Alas, I was already winded half way down the stairs, gingerly grabbing the railing for dear life! The beach was peaceful and not packed with sunbathers. The water was way too cold but it’s definitely a great place to spend a relaxing afternoon enjoying fresh air and watching surfers in action. The kids gave the tide pool a big thumbs up. Climbing back up those stairs was challenging. As much as I tried deferring it, I had to access the bathroom at the head of the stairs so I ended up going up twice. When it’s time to go home we had to lug everything we brought down back up. I am definitely out of shape, and had to stop a couple of times on each ascent to catch my breath. Good thing my huffing and buffing were not too conspicuous and the ocean view at dusk en route was enchanting. Coming to this unique beach was a good motivation to exercise more !

I am so happy we stopped here on the way down to san diego. Great wildlife and protected area, they respect and protect wildlife. Beach is very clean and great ambiance. Sand looks like it has glitter. Many surfers enjoy it here and it is great for a nice walk, sight seeing and enjoying nature. Very romantic and quiet.

For tide-pooling in April which is better: Swami's or Cardiff?

The reef at Swami's is a little higher. If it is not a super low tide, I think Swami's is better.
