Beautiful stately redwoods

Living locally, we have been able to make this drive many times. We never fail to be awed by the majestic forests that line this road. The 101 portion is the original road that was bypassed by the new highway. There are many places to stop along the way to get a closer look at the Redwood trees.

Though i pretty much travel up and down 101 about once a month, this last time was the beginning of a cross-country trip which started in April. The Redwood Highway is one of the most beautiful stretches of road anywhere in the US, with plenty parks and vista points to stop at. This rainy winter brought mudslides and opened up... More

Stately redwoods line several local highways, US 101, SR-199, SR-36, and many byways including Avenue of the Giants, the old highway, which wends its way past Founders Grove. The tallest known trees in the world are found here in pleasantly cool majestic groves. There are many picnic areas, family camp-grounds, interpretive signs. Birds to look for here are Black-headed Grosbeaks,... More

A very scenic drive. The redwood trees were spectacular and further north, lots of impressive sand dunes.

This is a beautiful, historic highway. There are wonderful Federal, State, local, and private parks and tourist attractions along this highway.

This was my Nth time through this area, and always want more. Check local events schedule ahead, for some of the scenery detours in the area are closed to cars at certain days for various events. You don't really want to drive all the way there and see "bicycle and food traffic only".

I drove down from Oregon from I-5 down to Weott, CA. The hwy from Grants Pass to the border was typical with 55 mph and a few passing lanes. Once over the border there are several passing lanes with 65 mph. Several sections were very curvey and slow going with turnouts for slower vehicles. It's a beautiful drive over looking... More

This is a magnificent drive through a combination of red wood forests and ocean front with numerous river crossings over spectacular gorges. The road is a mixture of freeway standard construction and winding rural road. In some places it has been severely damaged by rain and mud/rock slides and there are a number of road construction sites along the way.... More

We did a walk through the giant trees 1.3 miles. The trees are biond believe in size. The height is unbelievable. The silence in the forest is relaxing. The best forest i visited in years. We were very lucky with the weather.
