Take a tour off Highway 99 and visit Fresno's best kept secret. *A hand-built network of underground rooms, courtyards and passageways reminiscent of the ancient catacombs. *Unique fruit producing trees, shrubs, and vines growing underground - some over 90 years old! *Ancient Roman architecture - arches, vaults and stone-built walls. *Underground micro-climates - temperature variations of 10 to 30 degrees! *Underground home of Sicilian visionary and self-taught artist/builder Baldassare Forestiere.

Mr.Forestiere made life turn out well, and his family is still sharing the legacy of a man whose faith and ingenuity led to a remarkable and satisfying long-term accommodation. His story is one of arrival in America, hardship, hard work, disappointment, hardpan earth, and triumph...More

The fact that one man would and could do this in a lifetime is amazing. The tour was good, the history of the place, and the actual construction is incredible. It's worthwhile to visit.

Thank you for your visit and your review! However, his project was a labor of love for himself and not inspired by a woman. :)

Go, especially when it is a hot day in Fresno. Such a treat to experience the underground of the Fresno area.

Great place to go to in the summer and escape the heat! You don't even know it's there until you look for it. Take the kids. It's a carved out home underground almost like a cave. It's very cool and peaceful.

Very informative, took my 12 granddaughter and we both had a wonderful time. Should have not waited years to go. Very nice down there on a hot summer day.

You'll be amazed that primarily one man was able to excavate all he did with common garden tools. For me its been a go to place to show off Fresno to my out of town friends, relatives, and business associates.
