The Goleta Butterfly Grove is currently closed to public access. The Ellwood Mesa has a significant number of dead and dying trees that are at risk for falling. The City is working on a Monarch Butterfly Habitat Management Plan to restore this area as a overwintering location for these beautiful creatures

While its a great idea to have a place where you can see lots of butterflies, this one is not very appealing to walk through, as it consists only of a small grove of half dead eucalyptus trees with a dirt pathway leading to a...More

We love exploring unique areas and did enjoy the walk to the beach and the walk along the beach, but were disappointed that we didn’t see any butterfly gatherings. We did see one flutter by. But, the walk through the eucalyptus grove was nice (smelled...More

This day trip is well worth the effort. The butterflies are incredible and the trails are beautiful for exploring a rugged part of the Santa Barbara coast.

You half to walk probably a mile or so before you see anything. Lots of people go here, but I didn't see the attraction to the place. We only saw one butterfly the whole time we explored the coast and trees. Not impressed.

Hiked with family, friends and dogs throughout the grove. Peacefully quiet and a beautiful view of the beach once we left the eucalyptus grove. It was fascinating seeing all the butterflies as the daylight illuminated them as they fluttered amongst the trees.

We searched and searched and talked to a local who said that she had lived there more than 10 years and these last couple of years there have not been any butterflies due to the trees dying. It's a place where you can walk and...More

This and "Coronado Butterfly Preserve" are essentially the same place. A long drought has killed many trees and caused damage to plants. As a result, some of the trails are considered by the City to be in danger of falling trees. Despite that, it is...More

I discovered this place at an open house for the Land Trust of Santa Barbara, but have been here many times since. It has lots of trails winding all over it which a person can explore.
