Sweet local family winery

A little over 4 miles from the main intersection of River Rd and hwy 116, down Mays Canyon Rd you will come to Porter-Bass Winery. The road to get there is tree lined, smooth at first and bumpy later, slow down and read some of the words on the road but be careful of other cars, and when you see the full blown sun, vineyards, etc YOU ARE THERE! Make an appointment to wine taste. Met Luke the wine maker, great guy. This place will make you slow down and smell the....vines!

Great wine tasting experience

Wonderful small winery with pleasant experience sitting outside with the owner. Their wines are great and their Zinfandel was especially outstanding.

Great Winery, Great Host, Great Experience
Aug 2019
We were looking for a winery close to Armstrong Nature Preserve that would accommodate a large group (12 adults & 5 kids). When I called, Sue picked up the phone right away and did not make me feel like my request was crazy. The adults lounged under the tree, listened to the land's and winery's histories, and tasted a pair of refreshing chardonnays (one estate, one not) as well as a zinfandel, pinot noir, and another my husband and I are blanking on. The kids ran around the vines and fed the cow.

It truly was a perfect place to start our weekend of wine. I believe nearly everyone in our group bought at least a bottle. And I cannot recommend Sue enough as a hostess.

Favorite winery stop

This place is great for someone who's down to earth and just wants to learn about the wine or just relax. It's not fancy but super nice staff. They allow you to try the wine and if you come in August you can try the grapes right when they are ready to pick.

Wine in the vines
Jul 2017 • Friends
Fine experience to taste the excellent wines produced by this family winery while sitting in the shade of a big walnut tree and looking out at the vines. Owners & wine-maker will explain all about growing the grapes and creating the different wines. Highly recommended.

Only about 10 minutes from downtown with easy directions if you call ahead or GPS.
Taste under a walnut tree overlooking vineyard. We enjoyed every taste and took away a few bottles.
Nice people and good story about their wines.

We made a stop here based on a recommendation. It's by appointment but they accommodated us. Small selection of wines but they were all great!

Don't Go! 🍷

Only because this place is a hidden gem and I don't want it to be spoiled! Was referred to Porter Bass by the B&B we were staying at. Amazing wine in a beautiful location. Did tasting in a bunker like room behind the main house. I loved how down to earth the owners are and loved getting to know them as we tasted the wines. Worth the trip off the beaten path for the person who truly appreciates the art of wine making!

Unique Tasting Experience
Sep 2016 • Friends
What a wonderful tasting experience!

A group of 10 friends and I were staying in a house on the Russian River and called up Porter Bass on a whim on the Friday before Labor Day to see if they had any appointments over the weekend. They said they could take us in 45 minutes!

They do not have a tasting room - they have a nice little area in front of their home to sit out side. Sue gave us nice introductions to their Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Zinfandel. She gave us a great overview of what's going on at their farm and how they operate. It was wonderful to sit under the shade of their tree and gaze out over their vines on the hills. It was very beautiful and much more intimate than the in-and-out tasting rooms in the region. You have to check this place out!
