If you are a history buff, especially trains, you will love Railtown. The volunteers love to answer questions on railroad history. If they don't know the answer, they will find it. The roundhouse is full of history. They make and repair as many train parts...More

And even got a short ride behind the number 3 engine. Loved the roundhouse, the smithy's palace and all of the great tools that were custom made for the jobs.

Really fun and definitely worth a trip. When we were there they had free tours leaving at 11. Worthwhile. Great for kids. Stagecoach rides were great.

Call them as the schedule changes from time to time. Either way, its a fun visit you need to see.

Do you have to buy tickets on line in advance for the train rides? How crowded does it get? We are planning to go on 4th of July.

I would definitely buy online because it will be busy on the Holiday weekend. Also very hot. Bring a hat and water.

I am sorry that I cannot answer to that question because I live in Hyderabad, India and I was visiting Railtown with my daughter and her family, who live in San Francisco. returning from Yosemite.
