You'd never know that the 25 sq miles around Julian are catacombed with gold mines. The Eagle and High Peak mines were two that were close to one another and linked so they could share some of the resources to extract gold from veins in the quartz. Guided tour runs regularly, cost is $10 per person, small kids discounted. Entertaining,... More

Due to the electric company doing work in the area the power was off and the mine was dark except for everyone with a flashlight. That's better than the candles the real miners used. Still got to see the whole mine with interested narrative by the guide who is a local. The property also has some old cars rusting and... More

It is an interesting tour that really allows you to understand what mining conditions were with historical show and tell. I'm claustrophobic, but the mine is cut out of solid rock and big enough that I was alright. It's not expensive, fun learning and you even get to pan for gold.

A great tour and experience. This was not a Disney type simulation ride. This was the "real deal" and looks just like it did over a century ago. Met the owner who was beaming with pride on how his grandfather started the mine. Our tour guide was good but seemed almost like he was reciting a script...

Supposed to be a one hour tour... it lasted like 2 1/2 hours! Well well worth the money. But really too long. The guide was family and knew everything and wanted to tell you EVERYTHING!

What a superb tour . Our guide was thorough and made time for questions and time for the little people and older folks to catch up and do the stairway. It may have been longer than scheduled but so worthwhile. Keep this new guy on.

Gone to Julian many times, but first time for this tour. It is fascinating. A real part of the local history. Good deal at ten dollars.

What an amazing experience! We went into a real mine, with the guide telling some really interesting facts. He was rally funny and the customer service was brilliant! Definitely something I would recommend everybody to see, to understand the real gold rush in CA.

My boyfriend and I (Late 20's/early 30's) thoroughly enjoyed this. We are San Diego Natives and we had a really good time learning about the mine and the history. The walk through was fun, however the ladder is a bitfrightening for me as I don't like any ladders, especially not in a dark tunnel. That aside, it was a great... More
