I really enjoyed the Qiao Family Compound. Whether it was the relative emptiness, the blue sky or the very informative information provided about the rooms and the family and how daily life in the Compound operated, I just found the whole thing fascinating. The furniture...More

What an amazing place, great insight on how some of the wealthy lived. Give yourself plenty of time when visiitng, as it can get a bit "crowded".

Red lanterns adorned the Qiao's Big houses everywhere. Well preserved. Now used as a scene for several Chinese movies.

The compaound is not too big. One can get an idea of the past way of fliving there, even by visiting only the old parts. it is a nice place to visit, if one happens to be around the area.

To begin with, I watched the movie "Raise the Red Lantern" which was filmed in this compound and then I kind of got a whole different understanding of why this place is so interesting. The movie summary is this: "China in the 1920's. After her...More

You cant miss the guides for hire because they are directly across from the ticket counters. We also booked a driver that took us to Pingyao for a couple days and then to the Qiao compound.
