This is the "destination" that continues to attract visitors. Boutique shops, galleries, and restaurants abound. Packed with tourists during the summer and holidays seasons. A pleasant walk to and from the JR Shinkansen Station.

Shopping street with small traditional shops and eatery at the center of the town. Good to stroll around, finished in half day.

Looking at the reviews I didn't expect much of this place. But after personally doing a walk from the JR Karuizawa station to here I find it a rather enjoyable journey. This place has the typical western style buildings that represent the image of Karuizawa. Many souvenir shops as one would imagine. We bought chopsticks from a shop that engraves... More

A very local Street with locals selling local wares. Crowded and good place to kill a couple of hours . Interestingly enough there were plenty of cat and dog accessories . Maybe it's just me . The sausages at the specialty store (see pix) is pretty darn delicious . Gotta give it a try

not a long street, you can try many many JAM there. many shops selling Jam! other than that, not much special attractions there. you may try the sausage shop - worth to try. i also buy the PEACH from the fruit shop in Yen500. it is juicy and sweet. good deal.

A pedestrian street with lots of shops, a mix of tourist shops and some local type shops. An OK distraction for an hour but don't make a special trip.

About 400 meters in length, with a good variety of shops, almost on par with that of the shopping street in Yufuin. My favorite was the lace shop, the bikers shop, and the food shop that sold hams and bacons. One annoyance was that this crowed street allowed unlimited motor vehicle access, which may be dangerous for small chlidren. You... More

Feels a lot like Banff. If you have a couple hours to kill in Karuizawa, it's a charming town for a stroll. It's quiet at least, lots of frogs and birds. But I wouldn't make a special trip here. There are nicer places to visit in Japan.

I was quite disappointed with Kyukaruizawa Ginza as I was expecting posh shops, like the Ginza in Metropolitan Tokyo. What I found was some shops selling outdated stuff, eg clothes and shops, and a few restaurants along the street. What I found interesting was the 3 small churches in the vicinity, one of which is over a century old and... More

We really like charming Japanese towns with small streets for shopping, eating, etc -- Yufuin is a classic example. This area is almost better than that, clearly more upscale an area with lovely homes in woods surrounding this walking street. It's similar to a Cape Cod summer resort or a ski resort, which to me is a good thing. There... More
