- Anthie28 contributionsOne of the biggest outlet in JapanMost people knows Gotemba as the famous outlet among tourist...but my friend whonis Japanese took me to Karuizawa and i found that this outlet is much bigger and complete ither than Gotemba. Its verybeasy to reach by train as the reain station just infront of this outlet. You can also put your luggage in lots of locker there and the biggest you can pay only 500 yen. It needs at least one day to gonaround this outlet. So make sure you have enough time. Dont forget to bring your passport as tax refund you can have straight away in almost every store. You can also see Karuizawa ski resort from the parking placeVisited January 2020Travelled with familyWritten 28 January 2020
- ManngaDuaSingapore, Singapore473 contributionsGood price outletThis outlet mall is situated just in front of shinkansen station and very accesible. The mall is very huge with many brand stores selling outlet items. The price is very reasonable for some brands. Sports wears such as Addidas and New Balance are worth buying if you can find your size. The mall is full of people despite pandemic and people can spend hours for shopping in this place.Visited August 2022Travelled with familyWritten 19 August 2022
- The Eating AshmanTokyo, Japan270 contributionsExzcellent place to find some discounts but full of peopleThis is a pretty good place to go shopping if you are in the area or visiting Karuizawa as its one of the biggest outlet malls in Japan. The plaza is HUGE and there are plenty of shops, all major brands from Bathing Ape, Raphle Lauren, Adidas, Nike to Le Creuset and so on) but its is often full of people (even through October 2020 before Japan spiked again with Covid it was pretty full with Japanese, usually it's full of Chinese people coming to shop). There are some excellent bargains to be found but I would suggest getting there early in the day, checking out the map in advance and having a good idea what shops you want to really shop at first as it's easy to get lost in the enormity of the place.Visited October 2020Written 13 November 2020

We took a short break at here on drive to our accommodations. It is very good atmosphere. There is a pond, and outlet malls for shopping. We had a very long drive up here so we were able to get some coffee and take a break.

Karuizawa is a very pretty mountain resort town worth a visit. Easy access to the Shiraito Falls and Harunire Terrace by bus from Ginza street. A few Catholic Churches are well a visit. The Prince Shopping Plaza by the train station is just an added feature and offers a beautiful, vast garden/lawn with playground. The shops along Karuizawa Ginza are cute and with enough variety. One or better yet, two nights is ample time to enjoy the sights and restaurants.

Mall got everything. Stayed 4 nites to slowly enjoy every sale in the shop. Food from budget until nice restaurants are available. Family mart and 7eleven are there along with few local delicatessen. Came here every year to ski and shop so perfect for kids and the parents !

Huge place with many shops and restaurants just next to karuizawa train station and only less than an hour shinkansen ride from tokyo. We did not manage to browse the whole place but narrow down to those shops we want to visit. We were lucky there as Adidas outlet was having 60% sale and we bought 10 items at SGD300.

Right beside Karuizawa Station is this shopping plaza. On our first arrival at Karuizawa, we saw Karuizawa Prince Shopping Plaza at night time. With all the Christmas lights turned on, trees with no leaves and very cold breeze, we felt the holiday season. The lights especially at the man made lake was beautiful. Unfortunately, my photos didn't able to capture the colors of the lights. We got our winter jackets and scarfs at Gap. We got really good price. On the 3rd day in Karuizawa, the wife of my brother-in-law, my wife and I went around the shopping plaza while our nieces and my brother-in-law went to ski area to play with snow. As we went around the plaza, we saw many good deals... watches, sneakers, shirts, bags, etc... Unfortunately we were not ready for these good deals. When you visit this plaza, make sure you money to spend on these good deals.

If you are into Outlet Mall and plenty of top designers then this is your place. This plaza is adjacent to the Karuizawa Station. It is fairly expansive outlet mall. It was a nice way to kill a few hours and explore. There is a fairly decent food court and other food vendors.

I am wondering whether the price for the big brands items are competitive with the outlets in Europe? Especially the high-end fashion brands such as Gucci and Jimmy choo ...
Chiu Y

Price will not be significantly lower than Europe. But they will have some different selection / styles that are different than other places.

Hi, does anyone know what's the best way to get to Karuizawa from Tokyo? Can one take a bullet train?
Many thanks!
dl d
Australia23 contributions
Exactly. The bullet train is the fastest. Do not and i repeat do not get those 1 trip ticket as they cost a bomb. I think most reviewers here has given you an approximate cost.
You might want to get a 3 day tokyo pass for Yen 10,000. this way you would get to visit other places as well. You can easily get that pass at the Tokyo JR station Pass office. Just ask around and the staff would be more than happy to lead you to the right office. You cant just get it from all offices. Once you have purchased the 3 day tokyo pass, you can just ask them reserve a seating for you for the trips.
Easy.
