This was a great experience to walk through "the jungle." Of course, many thousands have been on this well-worn path, but the ability to come within 20 feet of these (thankfully not hungry) 300 pound 12 foot reptiles was quite a treat. The tour guides/employees of the park were able to speak their piece in English, but had a difficult... More

The ship's tender goes to a long pier. No one gets off the ship on to the island without being on a tour or hiring a private guide. We were in a group of about 20 with a guide and two security people carrying long poles with forked ends. We walk single file for a bit over half a mile... More

We were on a cruise ship and I was worried we might not make it to the island as we had to use a tender. Not only did we get there, we saw the dragons. Before we got to see the dragons we picked lemongrass saw a dragons nest and learned about them. You had to pinch yourself when you... More

We took a day trip out to Rinca Island, it was more expensive to go onto the island than the boat trip cost to get there and even more expensive to go on a Sunday, 310k rather than the usual 250k. We saw lots of dragons around the workers kitchen and a few others walking the very short walk the... More

Getting to the park was a trip itself. We booked a fan-boat to take us there. The captain navigated his boat literally in pitch black! No GPS, no fancy navigation system just his wit and years of experience. First, if you are not into bugs or cannot stand heat, you don't want to book a basic fan-boat (I specifically learned... An official UNESCO World Heritage Site and a Man and the Biosphere Program Reserve, Komodo Island is a remarkable place. Home to fewer than 2,000 people and an impressive 2,500 Komodo dragons, this is the place to reconnect with nature. While there are no guaranteed sightings, there are usually some Komodo dragons hanging out by the buildings near the entrance,... More

Komodo NP consists of a large number of islands, notably Komodo and Rinca, both home to Komodo dragons - the reason most people come to this area. Labuanbajo is the most common starting point for trips into the NP but other options are available. There are many outfits offering trips to Komodo and Rinca and it is difficult to differentiate... When we went to the Island we were taken aback by how big these creatures were and how close we were to them. You are with a trained guide at all times. No-one can wander in the park on their own. These dragons have a lethal bite. So glad we did this tour.
