Choose your time of day (e.g. low tide if you want tide pools) and your time of year (sometimes there's a load of sand and sometimes it's mainly rocks). There are fantastic tide pools to explore, beach to race down, and a small "cave" at...More

Well we took the concrete stairs that were marked shell beach to the bottom and there was a really small patch of sand and a few large rocks. No shells, no rode pools to speak of. Maybe we were there at the wrong time of...More

This was a great day outing with family. Had amazing time looking at all of the sea life in the pools. Also was impressed that they had a guide there handing out information flyers on the pools and answering questions. This is great fun for...More

Very tiny, not many shells while we were there but beautiful just the same. Neat little beach that you access via stairs.

Our kids had a blast exploring the tide pools. They loved seeing the fish, small crabs, sea lions and birds. We would have stayed longer but needed a bathroom and the ones at the beach were closed for maintenance.

We spent 2 hours here at low tide. Our kids were so upset when we had to leave (because of our 2 hour parking spot). Parking was a nightmare, but totally worth it. Bring your water shoes. It's slippery. We spent the whole time getting...More

A great area for exploring the tide pools at low tide. You will see crabs, small fish, snails, the occasional star fish and sea anemones. Be careful it is very slippery. So, wear the appropriate foot wear.

We live locally and still enjoy going to the tidepools. It's so relaxing and it's a marvel all the sea life that can be seen in a tidepool. Kids LOVE this. Friends from out of town just can't believe how many places there are along...More

This was so much fun for all of us, but especially for our 2 year old! She liked it better than the aquarium or the zoo, since it was so hands on. Got to see crabs, anemones, lots of cool seashells, both live and dead.

Easiest is to ask your smart phone "when is low (or high) tide" once you are in San Diego. Otherwise look it up on the web: Shell Beach San Diego on Tideschart (sorry, TA doesn't allow URLs): Should bring you to their... More
