Always scenic, being enhanced to better handle crowds

Entering Yosemite even here requires a reservation (or a transit permit for just passing through). Even so, nearly every site along the road was packed on a weekday afternoon. A lot of construction work was repaving existing parking areas and pullouts or creating new ones. That means more people will be able to enjoy this gem.

It’s open!

The pass opened on 5/27. Great scenic drive to Yosemite and great way to cut across to the western side of the Sierra, but Yosemite now requires reservations to enter the park.

Beautiful potential

But way too much smoke, couldn't see anything but shadows all day. The drive was quient and peaceful, probably due to required reservation to enter the park.

We were skunked out on reservations on Yosemite but the lakes along the road were beautiful. The drive is worth it.

Be sure to have a reservation this is the only way in. Be sure to stop along the way to take in the spectacular beauty of this National Gift.

Wonderful drive up to the Tioga entrance station. Even we tried to get tickets to Yosemite to go over into Yosemite, the website told us no passes were being issued to Yosemite. We were very frustrated, but it turned out to be a real blessing as we were able to enjoy the lakes and mountains leading up to the pass (and then back down!). Ellery lake is gorgeous in the morning (about 8am) with perfect reflections. Saddleback lake (up a good travel road) was low, but still beautiful. The Sierra's are beautiful along the way..take the time to explore!

We drove our 2013 5.7L Toyota Tundra and 19 foot Rockwood Minilite Trailer (3000 lbs dry)over the pass going in both directions. It was a breeze. The views were spectacular, which encouraged us to pull over often to take photos. I have uploaded a few if them here.

worth to go
Jun 2019
there are some beautiful scenery you can see along the road, e.g. the Tenaya lake, the place near the Tioga pass entrance, there is also some lookout point, e.g. the Olmsted point, however, it opened so late in 2019, normally the road will open in May/June, but in 2019, it open normally until July 1st, so late, we came there at the end of June, but we could drive thru' it without stop in the last week of June in 2019, there was one hour in the morning and one hour in the afternoon that can allow people to drive thru' the Tioga road without stop during that last week of June, so we can only take picture on in the car, but can't go to walk trails or go to some viewpoint to take a look, but once leave the park entrance, we can stop, can get down from the car, and take pictures as many as we want, the scenery there was beautiful, with snowy mountains at the back, also snow on both sides of the rocks / mountains nearby, even there are some floating ice in the Tioga lake, the scenery is so breathtaking

Spectacular road on the way to Mono lake
Sep 2019
This road through the higher parts of Yosemite National Park is only open in season as snow forces closure in winter. It is well worth the trip with spectacular vistas, meadows, mountain peaks. the last part of the road after Tioga pass goes down to Lee Vining and Mono lake - also well worth the visit
