Steve Borra started Lodi’s first tiny bonded boutique winery behind a backyard shack in 1975 on Armstrong Road. They’ll tell you they make their wines in the vineyard, with prime vine rows ingeniously planted in alignment with the afternoon sun for optimal ripening. In the winery, winemaker Markus Niggli uses natural yeast from the vines, along with complete bypassing of the press altogether to make the smoothest, most complex wines. Stop on by!

Stopped here last weekend. We were not sure if tasting room was even open as there were no cars in sight. Small, intimate tasting room. The Swiss winemaker works with a variety of white grapes and has some cool blends featuring grapes such as Riesling, Kerner, Bacchus and Gewurztraminer. Picked up a bottle of the Nativo white blend. Very cool... More

Markus, the Swiss winemaker, is absolutely FANTASTIC! He was trained to be a winemaker in South Africa and also spent a lot of time training in Western Australia. He is so knowledgeable and takes lots of time with customers explaining details of interest. Plus he has a marvelous sense of humor! His wines are made in the German fashion. They... More

Arrived here on a Monday and even though the sign said they were closed, we saw cars so took a chance...glad we did. First met Markus, the winemaker in their tasting room, which is small, but has a nice variety of gift items. Lisa oversaw our tasting, and as we were the only ones there, we spent nearly 3 hours... I so wanted this to be an enjoyable stop on our wine tasting tour. Parking is ok and it took a bit of study to find the tasting room. Inside is a bit on the small side as compared to other wineries but provides a pleasant atmosphere. I tasted three wines. Two were average at best but the one that... More

My wife and I have been wine club members for over 6 years. Borra vineyards has a great tasting room, not too big and not too small. Everybody makes you feel welcome. They always have theme events. Fusion Friday is my favorite. You will usually find Steve manning the BBQ or sitting with various guests. Markus isn't happy unless his... More

This was my first time wine tasting in California. We found a brochure on this winery and decided to give it a go. The staff were friendly and knowledgeable. Answered all my questions (even the stupid ones) with charm and humor. They really like working here. I am not a wine connoisseur but I do like wine and this was... More

Not a big fan of wine, but this vineyard has a great deal on tasting and good wine. The staff was very friendly and knowledgeable. Had a good time and hope more people visit this place.

Borra Vineyards reminds me of what I love about the Lodi region: the tasting room has a friendly atmosphere with no pretension, the winery is a family-run tradition, and the wines are good. However, Borra takes the best qualities of the Lodi wine experience one step farther with their innovative white wines. Markus Niggli, the winemaker, makes excellent dry whites... More

Borra was a surprise. The property and tasting room are charming, - the people who work the bar are delightful and knowledgeable. And the wine is first rate. Especially considering the price. We both joined their wine club and purchased several bottles while we were there. Interesting white wines and some memorable reds.
