This is the most restored of all the 21 missions. It's a hidden jewel located on almost 2,000 acres. The buildings are open and free to the public. There's a fee for parking. There are animals of the breeds the mission would have had in...More

My favorite place to visit every time I come to Lompoc. I have been visiting here for years and I never tire of it. I've seen many changes to the mission, but it has always remained a lovely place to stroll and take pictures ....More

What a great experience. We happened to visit on Mission Days where people dressed in period pieces made food and other goods like they did on the mission. We were able to go into areas that were normally closed off and interact with people dressed...More

I recently had a free afternoon while my husband had a business meeting in nearby Santa Maria, so he dropped me off at La Purisima. Without parking a car, this lovely place didn't cost anything. The day I went not many other tourists were around...More

Absolutely beautiful area, the mission itself is well taken care of and the kids really enjoyed the interactive activities. Would be lovely to go as a family and enjoy educationally with the docents, or just go and enjoy the beauty of the surrounding grounds.

I was irresistibly transported to the time the cultures of Chumash people and Spanish padres, Franciscans and Dominicans, struggled against the hardships of frontier life and sometimes against each other. A wonderfully complete Mission village complex, lovingly reconstructed in the 1930's under the CCC program....More

The old Spanish Mission is a State Park. There is a newish museum by the parking lot. The mission buildings were restored by the Civilian Conservation Corps in the 1930s largely using the original building methods (with added rebar!). The guided tour takes about 90...More

Awesome preservation of history. Docents are really committed to make your experience as true to life as possible. The mission is fully operational many times a year along with special activities with all docents ‘on deck’. Good place to bring kids!

We visited La Purisima on our road trip because the missions are so central to California's history, and I wanted to visit at least one. We could have gone to one of the more popular ones, but honestly I felt La Purisima had several factors...More

We chose this Mission and it's grounds for our daughter's high school picture and for picture taking of her children some years later. The grounds are peaceful, there is a petting animals area and the mellow atmosphere is truly sole refreshing. This is a very...More
