We took the historical tour and were fascinated by the stories and photos of old Venice. Venice is a town steeped in musical and Hollywood history and Jonathan brought it to life for us. Thank you Jonathan!

This was an absolutely fabulous tour! I had no idea that Venice had such a rich history. I've never actually considered myself a history buff but Jonathan made it so interesting and so entertaining that I now have a greater appreciation for it. I'm even feeling inspired to check out the history of my own town now! I wish I... More

I am a native of the area & took this tour because I thought it would be a cool way to learn about my own backyard. This tour was so informative! The guide knew so many great background stories of Venice. I appreciated that he had pictures of the past to compare to the present. A true treasure!

Jonathan really loves Venice and the tour gives him an opportunity to share his vast knowledge about the unexpected history of this quintessential California beach town. I've been there and driven through it for years without realizing its well hidden secrets.

I have lived here 25 years and never knew the fantastic world of canals, gondolas and amusement parks that existed in Venice at the turn of the century. Jonathan's tour is so well researched, so well presented that it blew me away. There's history and then there are the canals that still exist, such a hidden treat in our city,... More

I think every visitor to LA should include this on their trip. It's informative, fascinating and the guide, Jonathan is informative and really knows his stuff. You not only get the history of Venice, which is so interesting, but a walking tour around the Canals, so special.

Staying in Venice

Neighbourhood Profile
Venice has always danced to its own beat as the epicenter of bohemian culture in Los Angeles. Along the boardwalk there are street performers and local craftsmen selling their wares. Original paintings, souvenirs, and jewelry are on display. Crowds of visitors marvel at the sites while weightlifting enthusiasts pump iron in plain view, and skateboarders do their tricks around the skate park. All of it happens under the warm California sun with sprawling views of sand and sea. Heading east, the main drags of Abbot Kinney Boulevard and Main Street are lined with boutique shops, some major retail stores, art galleries and restaurants. Here the ambiance is more relaxed and upscale than the frenetic boardwalk area. Venice is a mostly walkable (and certainly bikeable) neighborhood, full of areas to explore.
