The trail to Lillian Lake is about 4 miles long crossing a series of bridges while gaining around 1500 feet in elevation. It ends at a backpackers campground. The trail itself is well defined along the river and up a series of slopes, the hardest being the final part to Lillian lake. Benches provides a nice stopping place. From there... More

We didn't make it all the way up to the lakes, as we accidently took a wrong turn after the 2nd bridge and ended up doing terrace trail for a while (hint: after 2nd bridge..go left) Came back down to go the right way, and we only made it to the 4th bridge. But it was a lovely hike, lots... More

From the parking lot, down the hill was not too exciting, but seeing the suspension bridge was cool. There were several other foot bridges crossing the river which made it interesting. At one point there was a really neat water fall over a glacier carved out canyon where the cool water rushed in some lovely breezes on a very hot... More

After the 2013 flooding, the trail has been damaged and most of it has been repaired ( couple of bridges still missing) The trail is along a creek and some parts are quite steep. Lilian lake is a peaceful green lake and you need to hike up another 1.5km to reach beautiful Galatea lakes.

First of all we missed the trail as the former path is washed away immediately over the second bridge. We carried on the Terrace Trail along with a lot of other hikers and added two hours to our hike. We turned back and advised some of the others coming that way, some took notice others were confident they were on... More

I am an avid hiker - we chose Galatea this day because my friend had never hiked before and wanted a dog-friendly trail. Usually I get pretty bored doing valley trails. Lilian lake was a nice walk up, and some welcome shade, although VERY busy. We continued on to Galatea - there's quite a bit of trail braiding up there,... More

I believe that the best month to see Galatea Lakes is September, when water in the lakes is exceptionally blue and larches in the valley have golden color. Give yourself 7-8 hours for this hike, not 4-6 as written in trail descriptions. Trail is making a loop around the lakes and it worth to walk the entire distance, coming one... More

You'd think that a trail that's 7.5 km each way and has 650 metres of elevation gain would be a bit difficult for many people, but because of its proximity to Calgary, the Galatea Lakes trail can get pretty busy! We stayed at the Kananaskis Hostel, and on the advice of the manager got an early start - when we... More
