The people that volunteer at the Museum/History Center and the County Offices personnel are very very helpful.

I stopped in hoping to see some history about the gold rush, but got more than I was hoping for. There was so much history in this little museum. Admission was $5.00 and the little lady that was working (really wish I could remember her name) was great. She was very helpful and eager to share information. I wish I... More

Had a very rainy day in Mariposa so we thought it would be good to do something indoors. The Museum was recommended to us and we spent over an hour just reading and learning about a little town we had no idea about.

Very informative and nicely assembled displays with good guide around the centre. Makes you feel the history of the area in the 'gold rush'. Then went to visit Hornitos the ghost town nearby.

Every facet of life in Mariposa County is represented inside this museum. Each has it's own display. Worth spending hours looking and daydreaming about those days long past.

The owners of the B&B we stayed at recommended visiting. We enjoyed it. Tons of stuff to look at, but it was all very well arranged and clean!

We visited this after the ranger at the California Mining & Mineral museum recommended it to us. It was okay. I guess for a small town like Mariposa it's a well curated place with two big rooms filled with old trinkets and clothes, etc. I thought it was also going to have an exhibit on Native Americans as the ranger... They said this was rated as one of the best museums in the country and I believe it. If you like mining town history this has it. Take time to let the volunteer give you a narrative. The book that explains each area seems unwieldy but if you take the time to use it really fills in the blanks.
