Amazing walk

Do not leave Mendocino without walking the headlands. One of the areas most beautiful walks. There are two separate headlands walks. Both incredible.

When visiting Mendocino, you really must allow time to walk the paths along the headlands in front of the town. We visited in March and everyone was looking for whales. It is so beautiful!

We chose to walk out at low tide just before sunrise. Although we didn't see any animal life other than some fish that were caught in the tide pools and birds, the sunlight was beautiful pre-dawn and we had the beach to ourselves.

The Mendocino Headlands State Park is a nice, level walk on all days, sunny, cloudy, even rainy, to capture a view of the "Old" Mendocino when it was a working town full of lumber jacks, mill workers, hotels, and bars. At the end of the Head walk you will find giant chains embedded in concrete that were used to attach... More

You can drive through but be sure to park and walk the paths to AMAZING views of the ocean! The bull kelp are floating and look like wildlife. The ocean crashes through the archways spraying water up.

What a spectacular way to spend a morning. The path meandering across the headland is worth the effort, whether you are walking slow to clear your mind or jogging to get some exercise the Headlands Park is a wonderful break from the hustle and bustle of daily life.

Beautiful views even though it was a gray, cloudy day. While enjoying the sights and sounds of the ocean the sun broke out for just a few minutes so we were able to see it both in sunlight and also grayness. Just a peaceful place to be

It's a beautiful view of the ocean crashing into the coast. Even in the rain it is a must stop. We stretched our legs with a short walk with small trails leading out to the edges of cliffs with drop offs into the ocean. Short stops with much time spent are worth it.

Great views of the coast and the ocean waves splashing to the top of the bluffs on an incoming tide. It is a very short walk from the edge of town

This place was amazing to see the huge waves crashing into the rocks. The waves were bigger than anything I've seen along the Bay Area beaches! I loved how this place was a very short walk from the downtown area. There are dogs allowed and you have to sometimes watch out for dog poop on the ground. Area by the... More
