Calpine offers free tours to the actual sites of its "closed-to-the-public" geothermal plants and wells, but you need to sign up well in advance for a place on this popular attraction. The facilities are scattered up in the Mayacamas Mountains and are connected by a network of roads and pipes that are reached from the Visitor Center by comfortable charter... More

We were attracted by the giant turbine outside a modern building and although the center was closed at the time, enjoyed walking around the outside looking at the exhibits. Good place to stretch your legs from a long drive.

I enjoyed the interactive displays, and some of the earthquake simulators were great! I enjoyed some of the student displays. Good experience for the whole family!

We went on a Saturday to see the exhibit. It seemed more confusing than helpful. However, from reading the posters around the office building and talking with an employee (who confessed to not knowing much), this is absolutely amazing. This was an alternative to (or diversion from) the wineries, and part of an enjoyable day trip from Calistoga. There is gr8 information on the deveolpement, but not a lot of bling. We heard about the underground steam in the area that is used to make electricity and thought this visitor center would be interesting. NOT! There were a few exhibits and the building was new.The woman in the office never acknowledged us or asked us if we needed help. No one else was there. It looks more like a place for... More
