A quonset hut circa 1940s, this theater is 20 miles from other movie houses and the locals consider it a fixture and a sanctuary. Investing $70K foor new digital equipment and a bright detailed screen this cooperatively-owned theater presents first-run films, classics, specially themed flicks and dinner-and-a-movie nights with themed dinners (on their riverfront lawn in warm weather) The newly-installed... We stopped at the Cafe here on the way up to Sonoma, we did not know about the theater. We needed quick food and coffee, and use of the facilities. and this was perfect for our needs. Surprisingly, the espresso was excellent.

Talk about going back in time... Wow. I Love this place :) It is quaint little theater. It can get cold in winter, so either sit next to the heat or bring a blanket and cuddle up. My kids call this the walk-in drive-in. Owners are great, snack bar had great food and sausages. Check out Don's Dogs at the... More

While driving to view where the Russian River runs into the Pacific we discovered the Rio and decided to come back for the 7PM movie and so glad we did. No clue about "The Second Best Exotic Marigold Hotel" movie but it didn't matter as my hubby and I were not going to miss the chance to view a movie... More

This iconic theater is what I always think of when I think of Monte Rio, a tiny town by the Russian River. I have seen movies at this theater, which is a renovated quonset hut. The movie theater shows recent releases. There is one screen. There are children and senior rates. There is also a cafe at this theater.

Whenever we're in Bodega Bay, we try to make a stop by the Rio Theatre to watch a movie and enjoy the unique ambience of this theatre. The murals painted on the inside walls of the theatre, the comfy seats, decent surround sound quality, the food, and the friendly staff always keep us coming back. It's just a lovely, quirky... We've been going to the Rio Theater for a couple of years now; it's an old movie theater in a quonset hut, and it's set among the redwoods next to the Russian River. The Rio recently switched owners, and they're showing an eclectic mix of blockbuster and independent films. You can't beat the atmosphere: it's the kind of place that... More

Family Owned and Operated single picture theatre took me back to my childhood. Home made brownies and Hot Cocoa was a plus. Nothing Commercial here, just home-town entertainment. Take a blanket and cuddle up under the big screen.

Not many theaters have a greater ambiance. The Rio feels like being in your own living room long long ago. Definitely a "mom & pop" kinda place. It is both comforting and nostalgic for old timers like myself. Heard that they need some assistance in continuing their operation. Help if you can.
