I'd be inclined to buy more wines from here if the staff were friendlier. I've been here twice and both times the staff ESPECIALLY the boss/owner (whatever he is) have been pretty yuck. Fortunately the wine makes up for the lack of service and friendliness. I likely wont return particularly given Murphys is a wine Mecca!!!

Arrived half an hour before closing and were told they were closed. The owner was very rude and inebriated. His dog attacked our dog for no reason! Disappointing and unpleasant experience - will not even bother trying their wine.

Their wines are exceptional, but the guy who works there is less than exceptional. Both times I've been there I've found him extremely rude. Not what you would expect.

We have been members of the Hatchery wine club for several years. The wines are excellent and represent a nice cross section of the best varieties in Calaveras County. The tasking room is literally very 'cool' and cave-like. Check it out!

We only had an hour to explore Murphys and managed to taste at five wineries. I wish we'd gone to Hatcher first. We especially liked the Voignier. But what I really liked was what we learned from the super knowledgeable staff about producing wine in the Sierra Foothills. If we return, we'll know more about how to navigate. This winery... More

We tasted wine for $8 per person. Wouldn't call this place fun but an average experience. The server rambled and had difficulty understanding him. Felt it was all business.....usually when we wine taste, servers are outgoing. But glad we came as we learned what wines we like and which ones we didn't.

The tasting room is fun, but don't miss the zins! As locals, we always send our visiting friends here. Super friendly and such excellent reds.

Even though this tasting room is tucked away under a building and off of Main street, it's one of the busiest. They are consistent with their Zinfandel but they have one called "Sewell", named after the owner. EXCELLENT full bodied red. Tasty with a great finish. Start with Hatcher first to set the benchmark high.

We've enjoyed hatcher wines in the past. We even went to a Yosemite Vintner's Holiday so that we could support their wines! Now we came back to add more bottles to the wine cellar. It's a little hard to find, just walk down Main Street and take the stairs to the lower, back area. Cozy tasting room.
